Spoilers Was assimilating a copy of the sphere data the origin of the Borg Queen?

Think it's possible that they already had assimilated a copy of them from another sphere, since before the 24th century.

Would explain that the borg species designation numbers include species, which we never have seen as borg drones and could also possibly explain the origin of the queen. Maybe another artificial intelligence that spawned from a version of the sphere data.

Maybe the sphere data was also responsible for the Borg being able to enter other dimensions like fluidic space...

Lacking definitive evidence, I can only say that my doubts far eclipse even the lightest ounce of yes.

Another hint for this being true is the fact that the Borg species designation numbers for some Delta Quadrant species are pretty high for them originating in the Delta Quadrant, with some Alpha or Beta Quadrant ones ranked lower than them... ;)

I'm sure you could make it fit - just not sure why you'd want to. Quite happy for The Borg's origin to remain nebulous or have their own path of evolution unrelated to the sphere stuff. It's a big galaxy - there's plenty of room for multiple, separate instances of advanced AI emerging.

It is quite likely that the Sphere would have encountered the BORG already and declined to be assimilated.
The BORG would have been way out of their league if they had tried anyway.

Now, I think a good Queen backstory would have been for her to have studied the hive minds of telepathic insects..and used that to assimilate the Borg even as they assimilated her. You could have a story where she is expelled—and the Borg go back to a monolithic, faceless threat again.

And where in Trek lore does it say the Borg come from a nebula? Eh?

I'll just get my coat on the way out

The Red Angel came to Earth in 2053 and abducted people from Indiana which would have left behind a signature that the Future Borg would have picked up on if the Future Borg had assimilated a copy of the Sphere Data that the origins of the Borg Queen is being based on. When the Borg travelled back to 2063 to stop Zephram Cochrane, the trace elements of Red Angel making time jumps would have still been around in space and easily detected by a Sphere Data influenced Borg Queen.

I'm still curious about that ENT season 5 story where Alice Krige was a Starfleet medtech who gets assimilated and becomes the Borg Queen.

Like, how the fuck were they planning to pull that off?
