I just finished another runthrough of Season 7, finishing up with "What You Leave Behind" and I really started love Damar's character development at the end. I was rather bummed when Damar died, moreso than the last time I saw the episode. It was an honorable death, dying as a martyr to Cardassian Liberation, however I think no one was better to lead the reconstruction of Cardassia than Damar. Despite all the instances of himself and the Cardassians as aggressors, I think his acknowledgement of the Federation's assisstance and ability to work with Colonel Kira would have given Cardassia a much brighter future diplomatically. For once, Cardassian's could finally find a way to live in peace with the quadrant and could potentially become allies with the Federation or at least on solid neutral terms. Killing him kind of through out all of that out the window, as we are left with just Garak, an impopular Cardassian that believed that the Cardassians could work together with other races. I think the ending would have a little more to it, seeing Damar finally sitting accross the table with Sisko and Ross, and actually seeing him getting the chance to kill Weyoun instead of Garak. Any thoughts on this?
