Warp Theory in 2 minutes

I wanted to make a video explaining General Relativity, but since I was short on time I only had time for a 2 min video on warp theory.

Now keep in mind that this video is a little speculative of how I think warp theory works, and my version of it is a little deviation from the Alcubierre drive. Basically I'm treating space/space-time as a physical medium and one that the ship has to overcome to reach speeds faster than light. Hope you enjoy the video!

except that's not how it works. The bubble is just what magically makes the crew not subject to time dilation and whatnot..(well there's more to it then that but that's enough for the point)..but contracts space in front of the ship while expanding it behind it..it does NOT make space go around the ship as you are depicting.

you're video is false.

Exactly Ronald, the warp bubble is not just a regular "bubble" or region outside the ship, but is a bubble that covers everything within that bubble too. As jgalley pointed out, you want both the ship and the crew in the ship not to be subject to time dilation and neither to Lorentz Transformation.

So if you want to avoid both, then what you could do is create a region of space around that ship that time and space will "behave normal" regardless of what speed they are going. Since this region of space immediately around that ship will be "separated" from normal space, then normal space/space-time will flow around that ship when the ship is moving at the speed of light or faster.

Think of the way that water flows around a fish that is swimming or the way that air moves around a speeding bullet. In a similar way (but not exactly the same way), a ship at warp MUST have space/space-time move around it. Otherwise, the effects of time dilation and Lorentz-Contraction will make the ship heavier, time will slow down for the ship and anyone in it, and it will never reach the speed of light. That's what I wanted the video to illustrate, but I'll make a better one another day.

I was in a rush when I made this video, but when I get some more money and better hardware/software, I'll make more and better videos like this. There's a great lecture on Relativity on Youtube in case anyone is interested in learning about this stuff. I HIGHLY RECOMMEND FOR ANYONE TO WATCH THIS LECTURE:

(He starts talking about Relativity at 5:40mins into the video)
