Warner Bros. Circling David Ayer for DC Comics’ ‘Suicide Squad’

Looks to me like "YES" on the right wrist and "SIR" on the left. And the choker around her neck seems to say "PUDDIN". So it looks like they're taking her submissive, emotionally dependent relationship with an abusive psychopath and making it into a gaudy fashion statement. I hope there's more to that than there appears.

As opposed to dressing herself up as a harlequin?

Shoot, I probably shouldn't bite on this, should I? I almost feel like I'm being trolled into a lengthy rebuke over the fundamental nature of the character.

I don't see how that's parallel. A harlequin is a character with a long history in commedia dell'arte. True, it was initially a servant, but it's grown well beyond that, so it isn't specifically identified with submissiveness. After all, I don't think Paul Dini worked out her abusive relationship with the Joker until sometime after he created her. She was originally just a character in the vein of the henchwomen from the 1966 TV series, a like-themed sidekick for the villain to play off of.

Hardly my intention. I made a wry observation off the cuff (literally off the cuff, given the fashion accessories under discussion) and was not considering anything beyond my own reaction in that moment. I wasn't addressing the nature of the character, just the costuming choice. And as I said, I do hope that there's more to it than that first kneejerk impression suggests. It could be that she wears them ironically as a nod to her past submissiveness that she's now outgrown, or as a reminder to herself. And even if she starts the film still under the Joker's thrall, it seems likely that she'll break free of it in the course of the film, because that's where Harley is in the comics these days, and this take seems to be modeled on that one.

Given the nature of the relationship I was thinking that she wears the outfit as a symbol of being in thrall to the Joker not unlike the gear from Suicide Squad.

Well, I think she dressed as a Harlequin because her name is Harleen Quinzel. What else was she going to call herself? (Always beware people in the DC Universe whose names are thematically appropriate for something. Edward Nygma, Roy G. Bivolo, T. O. Morrow... Parents in the DCU really need to be more careful about what they name their kids.)

And of course her modern comics look and her movie look have only the vaguest hint of anything harlequin-like.

Especially if they need to name their kids "Harleen" to make it work. :)

They are placed like scars, but look like drawn lines.

Interesting from the Teaser cover you can see Joker's hair colour is definitely a dye job (or some other kind of application; I'm not an expert on hair things). Put alongside Leto's comments about Joker being a kind of shamanic character, it seems this version of J has put on his look for the same reasons Bruce Wayne dresses like a bat, i.e. to be seen as a reality-disrupting archetype rather than a person.

Thanks for that!
We do see Joker taking Harley into the Ace Chemicals stuff he fell into, so it's probably not just makeup and hair dye.
I noticed that these pictures still seem to be putting Enchantress with the Squad members.

Or to quote J. Jonah Jameson in Spider-Man 2: "Guy named Otto Octavius winds up with eight limbs. Four mechanical arms welded right onto his body. What are the odds?"

They should have called her Clowny McClownface. :)

Well, we still don't know the specifics of that scene. There's definitely something baptismal about it, but we can't be sure the chemicals are responsible (to whatever extent) for their look.

^ The yt link there is dead, but you can find it on actual youtube.
There are a couple of other things posing as the song, but this clip's reference to the purple lamborghini is the clincher. Sound is mediocre; seems like someone recorded it live from the video shoot.

Song is the usual rap shit. ;)

PG-13? BOO!

I can't say I'm surprised by the inane decision making of Warner when it comes to the DC movies. After all, they hired a director who thought the world wanted a dark Superman movie.

Well, I think they went into this specifically with a PG-13 rating in mind. I'm pretty sure that decision was made long before Deadpool was a success, and even after that they probably didn't want to change it. I read somewhere that Ayer is open to an R rating for the sequel.

Yeah, I read a statement to that effect here.
...David Ayer said in April that “For an R movie, you have to decide to do it right out the gate, and that was never the case here. We were always going to hit the PG-13 rating. But the film is meant to be that.”

I did see a quote from Charles Raven where he was saying they were sticking to PG-13 to keep the universe consistent.
That was one of things I found most surprising about Daredevil, that they actually let them do what sounded like a very hard R ( I haven't seen it yet, but it's one my Netflix disc queue) movie set in a univeser that had been consistently keeping things at a PG-13 level up to that point.
