Warhammer online

I was bored today, so I picked it up. As a recovering WoW addict, I need to be careful with it.

But seriously, I am a recovering WoW addict, I was bad.

So far I'm enjoying this game, it's not WoW but it's close enough. I was having fun with it.

Anyone else playing?

And if so, anyone interested in rolling on a server for some casual play?

Yup, I've been playing for a few weeks now and I was in the beta as well.

The big difference between WAR and WoW is the big focus on RvR (which is what they call PvP because they have to be different :p)... and for me, this is probably the first MMO where I really got into PvP. It just works really well! Only problem now is that the population balances are out of whack so most Order people don't bother with the open RvR unless it's a guild event because they're almost always outnumbered and stick with the scenarios instead (which are balanced instances)... it's making the game world sort of empty at the moment. I don't think it'll be as much of an issue as more people rise up to T4 though.

Come one, 3.0 beckons you!

One of the reasons I quit WoW was because my guild was lazy as shit and wanted to harp on T5 content and Keep running Kara and ZA for badges. You can only tank Prince with your eyes closed so many times.

So far I'm liking WAR a lot, I like being able to fight and heal on my Warrior/Priest at the same time.

I rolled order because the guys who recommended the game to me told me how they're the underdogs ATM and besides the XP buffs for now, it's more like the horde in WoW, the more mature people are people Order, so that's what I went with.

I like what i hear about the PVP and would gladly give it a shot if i thought my laptop's piddly integrated graphics could run it. It runs WoW fairly well. Blizzard is smart that way.

i tried the LOTRO trial, put the settings to low and it ran fairly smoothly)... but alas, NO FREE TRIAL yet. I suppose they dont need it since its selling on its own but a 7 day or even 3 day trial would really help me out.

Recommend any good sites where I can go read and learn what the hell I'm doing? I hate being a noob

http://www.wardb.com/ is a pretty good one. It's a bit like wowhead or thottbot. Curse.com also has some pretty nice addons.

I'm already a bit tired of WAR. I'll come back to check it out in a few months. Probably when I hit the first cycle of boredom after WOTLK comes out.

You can check out Warhammer Alliance too as they have some good guides... but they're basically the equivlent of the official WoW forums, so be ready for a lot of complaining :p

It's kind of entertaining watching the whiners and fanboys go in circles in thread after thread. Gives me something to read while at work. Unfortunately, there's the occasional post from someone reasonable in there.

Only MMOs out there worth playing are Everquest or Everquest 2. I've tried countless other games and they all suck.

Never played Everquest. I was a big WoW player for a long time. But I got sick of it.

So far I'm having a good time with WAR. I'm staying casual, no more hardcore for me. What I really like is that there's lots to do at all levels and there's loads of content for the casual player.

I'm interested, but not interested enough to buy the game sight unseen. Bring on the trial accounts!

If I hadn't been in the beta I wouldn't have bought it without a trial, that's for sure. I almost bought Conan without playing it first, sure dodged that bullet :p

Incidentally, they just put up their first state of the game post today where they talk about upcoming tweaks and changes, including more benefits for participating in Open RvR (which tends to be underused as people are currently favoring the scenarios, at least below T4) and adding back two of the cut tank classes (for human and dark elf). Still no sign of the Choppa. Ah well, maybe next year!

That the Knights of the Something Sun I've been hearing about?

Yeah, that's the human tank class which a lot of people apparently want to play... despite the fact that most people don't like playing tanks in the first place!

What's nice in WAR as opposed to WoW is that tanks do damage. At least from what I've read about people saying.

I was a pally tank on a PVP server in WoW. Which meant I couldn't kill shit by myself and was a free PVP kill.

A big bonus in WAR so far is "Taunt" has an effect on players and not just mobs.

Yeah, tanks are extremely valuable in RvR, though a lot of the people who play them don't seem to use them right.... but that can probably be said for all the classes! Even besides the taunts, just the fact that you can physically block other players makes them really useful. I play a Shadow Warrior which is (mostly) ranged DPS which is really squishy so I totally appreciate having a tank in between me and the enemy. Another thing that's nice about WAR is that the classes are all balanced to work as a group... I'll nearly always lose a 1 on 1 with most other DPS classes, but with a properly working and balanced party, I can top the damage charts. Teamwork is fun!

I always found it amusing most of the praise I heard regarding AoC was about Tortage... the non-MMO part.

Prot Paladin and Warrior DPS has shot through the roof in 3.0, and at least for Warriors it's now considered a serious PVP spec in addition to being the recommended levelling spec. Death Knights don't have a traditional Tank/DPS spec division, with Blood/Frost/Unholy each offering the tools to get the job done, and of course Feral Druids still have Cat Form. xD
