Warhammer 40k : Space Marine gameplay

I'll most probably be getting this for the PS3 (unless the reviews are really terrible/broken on the platform).

The first mission are the same from the E3 demo. You can tell someone is enjoying the game when they get a kick out of how they die. I did laugh during that vid when he threatened to beat to death anyone who said it was a rip off of Gears of War with the 4th edition rulebook.

I've watched a few dozen of TB's game previews, and this is the first time I've ever heard him squeal with girlish glee. So its got to be something special.

And props to Relic for the extensive option screens for us scum who still game on PC. :)

Currently downloading the demo from Steam.

I'm mainly a PC gamer too, but my main computer is a laptop that's a couple of years old so I'm farming it off onto the PS3 so I can get the graphicy goodness.

Meh. Unless they include a non-Human campaign (which is highly unlikely given the game's title), I'll pass.
Never could stand SMs. Least of all the Smurfs.
Never played vanilla DoW and DoW2 either because they focused too much on SMs. DoW: Dark Crusade on the other hand, was a damn fine game.

we are the space marines. I especially like the grey knights awesome next to the ultramarines. I may get the new pc next to star wars the old republic this year will be fun in game play.

I enjoyed the demo, but I'm a little worried it won't scale up for a full length game without getting tedious. I'll wait for the reviews before I order it off Steam.

But if I could play as Eldar I'd be throwing my money at them :p

Did they really name it Space Marine?

Anyway, it does look pretty cool. If I have some spare bandwidth I'll download the demo and give it a shot.

Wow, I spent two hours playing the demo last night and damn. Haven't had that much fun since I bought L4D. Which is odd, since I'm usually not a blood n' guts combat type. But hey, when a horde comes charging at you shouting "KILL THE SPACE MARINES!" then all bets are off. :)

Combats actually fairly simple once you get the hang of the Stun/Execute moves. Just keep moving and spamming the mouse buttons. Only weakness I found with the keyboard is its a bit tough to switch guns in the middle of melee combat.

Yeah, that would be the only real dealbreaker. Heres hoping they had the good sense to vary the gameplay.

Got the demo yesterday, and I have to say I'm completely loving it, and can't wait for the full game (preordered the Collector's Edition for the Xbox 360). The combat is as bloody and visceral as could be hoped :) My only complaint gameplay wise is the lack of a parry/block action, though I don't know how hard that would be to smoothly animate switch between those kind of moves and the killy moves.

@captaincolhoun: You might be interested in picking up the Elite Armour Pack then, it's got a better detailed version of Space Wolves to use in the multiplayer (includes things like wolf pelts etc. rather than being a pallette swap, which is presumably what you get in the standard box).

I can perhaps see this game being expanded with DLC campaigns to represent other chapters and against different opponents. They might experiment with different races being the PC in DLC or perhaps in new games, but I think it was smart to go with SMs first; they're the flagship faction for 40K, so if you're gonna have one to try, Astartes makes the most sense. Also, they're the most 'all rounder' individuals in the game, so again, better to start with them, before going to races that slant towards very specific styles (i.e. hyper specialisation with Eldar, range focused Tau etc.)

Wow. I'm jealous of all you people that have fancy computers and can run this game right from your hardware; I have to wait until OnLive offers the game before I can try the demo. I've read up a bit on 40K lore since everybody started making a big deal of Space Marine, and this is the kind of game I've been waiting for since Starcraft: Ghost was cancelled. All I have to say is wow. This looks epic.
