Voyager Weirdness

DS9 gave us these

Marauder_Mo_figures.jpg

Ferengi soldiers I think, but they remind me of the Metaluna Mutant in This Island Earth.

Voyager seems to be several steps backward. I am only halfway through the series 3 though.

Some of the things i've noticed are:

* The Voyager non-humans looked really.. well.. HUMAN. Kes might as well have been a chick I dated in highschool, Tuvok looks more human than vulcan, B'Lanna is like Meg Griffin with a head injury (look at her compared to Kaylar)

Meg Griffin with a head injury!!! LOL.. yeah I always hated how un-klingon B'Lana looked and acted... Kaylar was freaking HOT....and Lursa and B'Tor got me through puberty..

As for Neelix.. I did like the character but i always thought Quark was a better written "comedy relief" character ... Neelix is more like Rom with a bachelors degree

I agree Tuvok didnt look vulcan either. But I always thought Spock looked a little too human ( i guess thats acceptable since he's only half)..Also didnt like the way his brother Sybok looked..and he's supposed to be FULL blooded vulcan....Dunno what the makeup artist was thinking making him look like Kenny Rogers..

Vulcans should generally look like this. Notice how prominently the ears and eyebrows stand out:

(Sorry for the link thingy..How do you guys get pictures to show up in the actual post?)

Eyebrows and Ears on Vulcans/Romulans are supposed to have symmetry

This question, and more, is covered in the FAQ. I'd suggest reading it at any site, as rules and Terms of Service vary.

What a shock

Isn't the whole reason Neelix called Tuvok "Mr. Vulcan" because the introductions were something like (paraphrasing):

Neelix: "And you are...?"
Tuvok: "Vulcan"

Which Neelix took to be Tuvok's last name, as in "Mr. Tuvok Vulcan"?

If that's true, I can't blame Neelix for getting it wrong. Of course, he never corrected it after hearing NO ONE else call Tuvok that, when he did hear people say "Mr. Tuvok."

Still, I still call a nephew "Baby Sam" even though he's at least 25yo and near 6' tall. But when I met him, he was only 3 years old and quite short. The "Baby Sam" name has continued in much of Hubby's family, too, since there is (and was) an adult Sam.

It's understandable at first, but when he's doing it years later it's just one more way Neelix is a jerk.

Here's where Neelix's confusion begins, immediately after getting beamed aboard.

NEELIX: Astonishing! You Federations are obviously an advanced culture.

TUVOK: The Federation is made up of many cultures. I am Vulcan.

NEELIX: Neelix. Good to meet you!
(Neelix gives Tuvok a bear hug.)

After he finally figured it out, maybe he kept using "Mr. Vulcan" as a sign of affection, or considered it an inside joke between him and Tuvok, like a nickname.

Or maybe he just liked being an @$$h*le. :shifty:

Yeah I took it as affection and trying to friendly up his relationship with Tuvok. Which is why it comes off as trying too hard since Tuvok rebuff him.

I totally know WHY neelix does it. The problem is, he CONTINUES to do it.. like its endearing or something.. That and the fact that he keeps trying to make Tuvok laugh..

He wouldnt try that crap with Worf!... SHEEEEEEEEEEEIIIIIIIIIT

I wouldnt call Neelix a jerk.. Just an annoying little bastard.

Quark was a jerk, but we LOVED him.. The writers totally took the character of Quark (who, lets face it, was a talented hacker, pilot, social engineer, negotiator... he just chose to lead the typical greedy ferengi lifestyle) and used him as a baseline for Neelix. Neelix, is a soldier, survivor, negotiator, talented pilot. He isnt a bad strategist either.

They are by no means the "same" character.. But Id much rather be stuck in the Delta quadrant with Neelix instead of "the son of Keldar"..

I couldnt imagine Voyager without him. He certainly evolves as the series progresses.

(and lets be honest.. Quark could never have scored Kes.. She'd punch him in the Oomaks the first time he opened his mouth)
