voyager vs. ...

Yeah, but you can say that about anything. Catspaw was an abysmal TOS episode, but there were still a few good lines from Spock in it. Doesn't make it a good episode.

I like a lot of things in all the ST series. Having finished a rewatch of Voyager, I found myself skipping a lot less eps than I do with TNG (I skip a great portion of seasons 2 and 7 of TNG, almost more than I watch). Overall, I thought it was a fun ride and great family entertainment with good values, something my kids don't get a lot of anywhere else.

As for the so-called "Voyager relaunch", I want nothing to do with it. Constant character destruction is not what I want and I don't like the way the good, old Voyager characters are treated in those books.

Have you read what happens to Janeway in the TNG relaunch? I threw that book across the room in disgust and I'm hardly a violent person!

I haven't read those books and I will never read them. I find the whole "Death Trek" concept in those books insulting.

I don't understand the purpose of the way the "relaunch" has taken. Why don't create a new book series with new characters who those writers can kill off at random instead of destroying beloved characters and by doing that ruin everything for fans of those characters.

I also get the impression that those who like the "relaunch" and its current course (or should I write "curse" instead) are people who don't like the Voyager TV series or the Voyager books written during the production of the series. Maybe those people get a kick out of seeing the Voyager characters being killed off or destroyed?

None of the Berman-era Trek relaunch novels are my cup of tea. I agree with Lynx that killing everyone off one by one or having horrible things happen to most of them is just weird. No thanks. Let's not even get into the babies born to certain couples and the women whining about wanting to get pregnant and acting like idiots while everything is falling apart around them....

No, bizarro because the majority of people feel the same way as I do. Not that there's anything wrong with liking Voyager and not that I should have expected any less than defense of it in it's own sub-forum. It's just still odd to me.

Majority of what people?

I know about.. 25 people IRL who are huge VOY fans, and some of them are teenage boys, and no they are not all my family.

Online you will find plenty of fanfiction and fan sites about Voyager. Sure you can wander over certain sub forums on this BBS and find lots of disparagement, probably for ENT too, but it's just the culture and the people of that forum. There are not thousands of posters on each subforum here. These forums in now way are a "majority" of Trek fans.

The truth of numbers and popularity isn't going to be revealed by either people we happen to know or one bbs.

I absolutely LOATHED the whole baby and baby whining angst in those novels. SO BADLY DONE. Awful. Embarrassing. And those stupid melodramas where the couple stops talking to each other because of some misunderstanding about the pregnancy and they are all apart and full of tension about each other.. OMG. These are Starfleet officers, quite old ones at that. That is such a juvenile plot device, real adult couples don't behave like that.

The majority of all people. The majority of Trek fans I know. There's really no good answer to that question seeing as neither of us has any numbers or statistics other than personal experiences to back us up. My experience has been that of all my IRL friends who like Star Trek, not a one of them likes Voyager even a little. Thankfully, none of them are teenage boys. It's rare for me to meet anyone at a convention who likes Voyager.

Again, there's nothing wrong with liking it. I'm just saying it's not a well loved show. Like Enterprise. I like Enterprise more than most people do. I recognize that's a minority opinion. I'm okay with that. I don't need popular consensus to like it.

Depends on who you're talking to I suppose. I don't know many Trek fans, but my brother has told me he's met a lot of people who have been Voyager fans (and neither he or any of his friends are anything close to what you would call scifi fans). Maybe it's a casual thing. Voyager is a more casual show, which probably appeals less to the hardcore fans (among other reason of course). I'd personally think it would appeal less to casual fans too for its nerdiness, which could also be true. It doesn't sound like your experience represents the casual audience though.

All I know is that it doesn't seem popular here. Personally I love the show. All that matters to me. :p

That's all that should matter. My only point was that realistically, it's a minority view and I was just pointing out that it's odd to see it for me.

I was as surprised as you. Whether or not we can gauge the "majority" view in real life, on this forum it definitely seems to be the minority view. I enjoy the show, and I'll tell you it's not from the overall strength of the cast.

My oh my! I didn't know about that "wanting babies" thing. It looks like the relaunch is even worse than I expected.

It seems like being bored to death with the next Stargate Universe episode is the lesser evil in this case. ;)

I'm pretty sure that the majority of fans prefer Voyager to Enterprise.

Probably true. I would say that Ent is probably the least popular Trek series - but it's not like it's that far behind Voyager.

on Star Trek is economical not moral or ethical.
Besides that, why I think Voyager is the best series is because they got better and better at it.
science fiction -> science fact
science fact -> science fiction
I think all of Voyager's characters as well as officers were artfully and sexually deployed.
Harry Kim's use of technobable in Voyager series is unequaled in previous series.
I may say the same for Janeway, B'Ellana, and Chakotay.

This came from Chakotay; Season 5 'The Fight'
and Chakotay finally learns how. The ship entered through a tri-metric fracture. Chaotic Space intercepts normalcy at the 18th dimensional gradient. He barn-storms the bridge-- and the warp field is configured to a rentrillic trajectory. He brings the ship around and saves the day.

I think ENT has won that race in fans eyes a long time ago. But good news ENT fans, if there is ever an Abramsverse series it will replace ENT as the despised failure, just as ENT replaced VOY.

As far as the old entertainment schtick of 'whatever is newest is suddenly worst, and whatever preceded it is suddenly decent' goes, you're right. As far as popular opinion goes, that could very well happen. But for me, personally, I have a feeling I'd definitely enjoy a show written by Fringe's writing staff more than I would ENT's.

And I say Fringe because Abrams would probably have some of them working on it, all things considered.

I'm having a similar experience.

With VOY, I only skipped a few episodes from each season and that was largely because I was in a rush to get to an episode I considered better/more exciting, etc.

With TNG, I only watch a few episodes from each season because most, for me, are bland and dull, dull, dull. Although S2 is the season I've watched the most of since I consider Pulaski miles above Crusher.

WOW. I can't believe someone actually has this opinion.. MY opinion.. on this most sacred of all series.

heh..
