voyager vs. ...

gates showed up on (on my dvds of) Dream on the other day (15 years ago) and dream on is adult comedy from HBO, which means that whoever the female love interest is for the hero each week, we generally, seven times out of ten get to see her boobies.

"Take it off Gates! Take it off! take it allllllllll off!"

27 minutes later and no McFadden Mcdumplings.

So sad.

I think Pulaski's Puppies Paraded Pornfully would make me rip my eyes out.

With TNG, I only watch a few episodes from each season because most, for me, are bland and dull, dull, dull. Although S2 is the season I've watched the most of since I consider Pulaski miles above Crusher.

WOW. I can't believe someone actually has this opinion.. MY opinion.. on this most sacred of all series.

heh..

Well, great minds and all that. ;)

And Guy... erm... Oh, I'm just not saying anything.

Actually, I will. I'll take Muldaur in her prime over McFadden in her prime. Now behave. There've been some threads in Misc and TNZ that are calling your name. Tsk tsk.

In TOS the actress was okay I suppose, which makes her 20 years past her prime meanwhile Gates (only 11 years younger.) I sitting pretty in the late 80s as a hottie and patty (Two year's Didi's junior.) is still 20 years on wondering if he's ever going to find some upward ceiling to his sex appeal.

but i've never known how people compare voyager to the other star treks. so i guess what i'm asking is, what is the opinion of voyager vs. the others?

The Original Series and The Next Generation are much more widely known and popular than the other series.

I'm really not sure if Deep Space Nine is more recognizable or popular to the general public than Voyager. I do think random non Star Trek fans could pick out Janeway or Seven before anyone on Deep Space Nine.

I think Enterprise is widely considered a failure with the least following.

On this message board in particular the DS9 following seems to be the strongest and most popular. For my personal opinion, TNG is the best, ToS/DS9 is great, Enterprise had its moments, and Voyager was AWFUL. To each their own.

It's been years since I saw the McFadden ep. I think she just showed her bare ass, if I remember correctly and it IS a dancer's ass, so

Some women age well, Muldaur did not. She looked like a boozing sea hag as Pulaski. The sight of her topless even at the time she was on TNG would have made most people's heads explode.

Well, let me start with a list:

VOY
TNG
TOS
DS9
ENT

I have to state one thing: I love Voyager's seasons 1-3! :bolian:

I don't like Voyager's seasons 4-7 so if I compare the whole of Voyager with TNG, then TNG will win due to more good episodes in seven seasons.

But despite my affection for the TNG characters as well, I must say that I really like Voyager's characters. I must also state that season 1, 2 and 3 of Voyager have more good episodes each than each TNG season.

Honestly, there is something special with Voyager, especially the characters!

I like TOS and DS9 as well, close call between them too. TOS wins thanks to great characters, although I like the DS9 characters too.

Enterprise didn't make it for me for several reasons. A weak series compared to the othre Trek masterpieces. However, Enterprise is a masterpiece compared to "Stargate Universe".

I definitely agree. I really liked seasons 1-3. Now, I like the borg, and glad they were part of voyager, but I liked the idea of races never before seen. I liked the Vidiians, Kazon (OK I know they were Klingon-esk, but still liked them!) , Ocompans, Talaxians...you name it.

Also, Seasons 1-3 were the era of Kes. Kes>>>>>7 of 9, IMHO. In many ways, they were the opposite of each other. I know 7 was better looking to many, but you know, she HAD NO PERSONALITY! Most of the time, 7 came off as cold, reclusive, and downright angry. Kes was warm, fun, and very elvish! And IMHO, Kes is much cuter, too. A woman doesn't need 56DDD breasts, a nice butt, and a 12" waist all crammed into a cat suit, to be hot!

Don't get me wrong...I like all of Voyager, including seasons 4-7, even if it devolved to the "7 of 9 and Doctor Show" at some points. And don't get me wrong: I even liked 7. I just feel they did Jenifer Lien wrong. Kes was an under used character that could have been developed a lot more than she was. I also felt they didn't need to get rid of her. They could have kept Kes on the show. IMHO, it didn't have to be 7 OR Kes.

It could have been both 7 AND Kes, and it might have even been interesting to see them play off each other, even learn from each other, because as I said, they were in many ways, each others' opposite.

For the record, my rankings:

DS9
VOY
ENT
TNG
TOS

Majority of what people?

I know about.. 25 people IRL who are huge VOY fans, and some of them are teenage boys, and no they are not all my family.

The majority of all people. The majority of Trek fans I know. There's really no good answer to that question seeing as neither of us has any numbers or statistics other than personal experiences to back us up. My experience has been that of all my IRL friends who like Star Trek, not a one of them likes Voyager even a little. Thankfully, none of them are teenage boys. It's rare for me to meet anyone at a convention who likes Voyager.

Again, there's nothing wrong with liking it. I'm just saying it's not a well loved show. Like Enterprise. I like Enterprise more than most people do. I recognize that's a minority opinion. I'm okay with that. I don't need popular consensus to like it.

Personally I love the show. All that matters to me. :p

That's all that should matter. My only point was that realistically, it's a minority view and I was just pointing out that it's odd to see it for me.

Reallistically for you and your chums sitting around watching your fav series... pretty naive of you to not realize there are other people in the world, so your "all people" aren't "all" are they? :vulcan:

This should be a nice eye opener... Holy crap there are people in the world who like Voyager! Dang they actually love it!

My friends, like Voyager a LOT. Hardley any of them post on these boards mostly because of the bullying.

Face it most Trek fans that are fanatical IMO and are also well...conceded and self-rightious and I could pass as one of them, I just happen to be on Voy side.

There are a lot of Voyager fans that I know who haven't watched anyother series.

VOY, DS9, TNG, TOS... haven't seen Enterprise... but I will.

As for the OP

I never used to compare untill I started coming here... I watched DS9 first and I found Voyager to be a superior series. DS9 had a lot of episodes that bore me as do TNG I always found Voyager to be more enjoyable. When rewatching each series DS9 took a while to get through... TNG still haven't gotten through it 8 mos I'm on season three... Voyager well lets just say this is how the convo goes in my house...

Me: I wanna watch something.
Husband: Wanna watch the next TNG episode?
Me: How about we watch Voy...Threshold! (hehehe)
Husband: yeah TNG is kinda boring...
True story...

I've always thought TNG was kind of boring.. sedate.. preachy. I realized the other day that I have no favorite characters on TNG. Okay Picard is cool and all, really good move to have a captain so clearly different than Kirk but nice as he is he would not make my top 10 or 20 Trek characters. As to the others, I am quite bored by them. It's weird because I could certainly list favorites from all the other series.

What I love about VOY is the characters, the humor, the way the episodes so colorful in content. Very enjoyable and never plodding or ponderous. THE Trek series for humor and out of 5 series there should be one that enjoys amusing us (I would put DS9 second but only because of the Ferengi and Jeffery Comb's roles).

Just tootle around on the internet looking at fan pages, you'll find thousands of people who love Voyager. Saying it's not popular is just silly.

See, this is my exact reaction to Voyager, except rather than sedate and preachy, I always felt that the characters were boring and bland and may at any moment disappear by blending in with the walls, chairs, or carpeting.

Not that TNG didn't have a snooze-worthy list of characters to be fair...
