Voyager top 5

No love for Mortal Coil? This is one of the best episodes of the series. Great character development; and a great 'real world' issue. I loved every minute of it.

Another worth mentioning is Night. Best comic line ever, delivered by 7 of 9 when she told the robot on the holodeck that resistance is futile. Also, a great Janeway episode in terms of how everyone is human, even starfleet captains.

1.living witness. the very best of 700+ star trek episodes and movies. thumbs up, doctor.

2.author,author. i liked the tng episode where it's determined if data is a sentient being. author,author does it ten times better, and funnier. great scene when paris rewrites the novel a bit.

3.message in a bottle, another doctor episode. moved me to tears when he returned to the ship and reported they were no longer alone, that's one of the moments only voyager produced.

4.death wish. by far the finest q episode, and quinn matches him.

5.shattered. what a review of 7 years of voyager in a single episode, classy interaction of janeway and chakotay, and the great moment when seven marches in and disables seska.

I'm not really a big fan of the show, but there are several episodes that I really enjoy watching.

"Counterpoint" - Just brilliant from start to finish. It really had that sense of danger and distrust going for it. I got to see a side of Janeway I wasn't used to seeing.

"Flashback" - I just watched this one half an hour ago, and I really, really like it. Mainly because of the Captain Sulu/Excelsior storyline, but oh, that made me a happy camper. Plus, and I don't say this often enough, Tuvok is just really cool.

I'm curious what people think is VOY with its A-game on, the best of the best

I agree with the poster complaining, "Only 5?!"
Season 1: "Parallax" We see Chakotay having to deal with the Maquis on one side, and Janeway's Starfleet on the other. Season 2: "Maneuvers" We see the cardassian spy return to hit Voyager hard, and see how Chakotay's Maquis pride, not to mention his machissmo is wounded by Seska's successful ploy. We also see how B'Elanna has inserted herself into the Voyager power structutre enough to challenge both Janeway and Tuvok's opinions on how best to handle the renegade Executive officer. Season three: "Before and After" For the simple reason that we actually got to see a "normal" Ocampan lifespan, if albeit backwards. ;-) Season 5: "Relativity", I still remember the utter shock of seeing the blonde ensign stand up and turn away from Captain Janeway's first(?) turn on the newly completed bridge of the Voyager. Season 6: "Dragon's teeth". Loved the battle when Voyager was rising from the planet.

Scorpion - My favorite episode in the entire series and the way event episodes are supposed to be done

Before and After - Kes's best episode and the one I fell in love with her. The hair was down, she was so much more confident, and it's a shame the new style didn't last long.

Living Witness - Voyager's Inner Light, City on the Edge of Forever

Memorial - I thought the message was really really good and the performances were top notch from everyone.

Blink of an Eye - Very neat concept

Honorable Mention:

One Small Ship - It would have been top 5, but the only down part was it should have been Chakotay's show, and not Seven's.

My top five are similar to many others' top five, and they're the ones that first pop into my head, so I'll just list them:

-Scorpion (I & II) (Best Borg ep since TNG's Best of Both Worlds and Q Who)
-Tuvix (A better character than either Tuvok or Neelix, and a great moral issue)
-Death Wish (One of the best Q eps, dealing with the potential boredom of being immortal)
-Timeless (Best use of Kim and a stand-out time travel ep)
-The Thaw (Another good Kim ep, with a chilling and funny performance by Michaeal McKean as the Clown of Fear)

Living Witness- Excellent premise, Picardo at his best, well written.

Year of Hell- I wish VOY had been like this more often. God, I wish the Year of Hell could have been a season long arc.

Equinox- See my entry for YOH. Voyager should have done this kind of ep more often. My only complaint is that we didn't see the Equinox crewmembers again.

Blink Of An Eye- Hands down, one of the best high concept, standalone episodes.

Scorpion- VOY did two parters better than other Treks. There, I said it. Scorpion part 2 is better than Best of Both Worlds, part 2.

Actually, that is a really good list. Season two is quite underrated. Death Wish, Tuvix, and The Thaw are excellent Trek IMO. Another s2 episode I really enjoyed was Meld.

I am bad with Voyager ep titles, but I'll try

First for me is Nemesis. I know Beltran didn't like the Chakotay character and he did some phone in acting, this episode has a line in it that I repeat more often than not. It was at the end of the ep when the ambassador is on Voyager talking to Janeway. Chakotay enters the transporter room and sees the alien and does a double take. Then the look on his face is great as he quickly exits the room. Outside the room somone asks Chakotay what is wrong, and he replies "I wish it were as easy to stop hating as it was to start". I love that line and it is so true. It is also something I have wished for myself. It is easy to hate.....but tough to stop

I liked Nemesis (the episode, not the film! ). For once, they tried to do something different with the alien language, and the propaganda storyline was quite interesting. Chakotay can barely look at the Kradin ambassador at the end. Very effective stuff.

While I now find it a hard episode to sit through since I know the surprise ending I have to agree that ending is chilling stuff.

This seems like a challenging thread! The best 5 Voyager episodes... hmmm

1. Imperfection

I really liked Icheb, mainly because of this episode.. when Janeway and Seven of Nine get all maternal and weepy and junk, Icheb steps up and basically checkmates them into not being stupid. Way to go, Icheb!

2. Life Line

I'm tempted to say that I like this episode because it doesn't feature much of the regular cast.. but aside from that, the character development for Lewis Zimmerman is off the charts here (especially for a character you'll never see again).. plus there's the added nostalgia of seeing Barclay and Troi, although they are pretty much immaterial to the episode.

3. Blink of an Eye

The idea of watching a society develop from pre-industrial to futuristic from orbit is an interesting one, and it's interesting to see the impact Voyager has on their society.. but the primary reason that I like this episode is that this concept has rarely been used in science fiction, and so it's a fresh idea.

4. Dreadnought

A sweaty Torres argues with a crazy computer missile that sounds exactly like her. This episode reminds me of a game of chess vs a computer, the computer always wins.. but it's interesting how they get around it.

5. Inside Man

This one was interesting in that you rarely get to see Star Trek portrayed from the Admiral's perspective. It's also kind of cool that Barclay manages to figure out what's going on by himself, while it takes the entire Voyager crew to figure it out.

It was Janeway herself that insisted thay Voyager was a Starfleet ship with a Starfleet crew following Starfleet rules. Tuvok would have been forced by his own logic to comply.

You don't know that, you are making an assumption. There is nowhere in any episode where Captain Janeway tells the Maquis that they have to be a Starfleet ship and wear Starfleet uniforms.

The only thing you see is Captain Janeway stating that they are a Starfleet ship after the fact.

No one knows how they came to that decision in the first place, in fact I can think of a couple of reasons why Chakotay would come up with that himself and insist that the Maquis crew become provisional Starfleet personnel.

Other good episodes would be most The Doctor-centric episodes, other episodes with Reg Barclay (except Endgame) and certain other episodes like Resolutions. Some of those could make it into top five.

Scorpion - For me, this is the first episode where Voyager really starting picking up momentum. Forget the Kazon, I'm just happy they've finally found a new/old nemesis with the Borg.

Message In A Bottle - The Doctor is great as usual, but this episode draws it's strength from the long-term implications of finally making contact with home.

Living Witness - Although the Doctor's back-up is a typical Voyager plot contrivance, it none-the-less led to this superb episode about a world that thinks Voyager is responsible for horrific war crimes, only for the Doctor to set things straight.

Timeless - Who would have thought, a good Harry Kim episode. A classic time travel storyline also brilliantly directed by Levar Burton in addition to his La Forge cameo.

Pathfinder - Perhaps the most signifiant episode of the series, and a sort of sequel to Message In A Bottle. Dwight Schultz is great as Barclay and Troi is actually worked into the story very nicely. The final act is perhaps the most emotive part of the entire series.

 

[Admiral Shran]

Scorpion (both parts) - I was glad they finally introduced a villian that was worthy; the Kazon were just laughably bad. I was also glad the new villian was the Borg (I'm one of those few select people who think Voyager didn't overuse the Borg). As for the episodes themselves - great drama, great suspense, great action, great dialogue. What more could you want from Star Trek?

The Omega Directive - One of three episodes, along with DS9's "In the Pale Moonlight" and "Inquistion," that did the most to get rid of the dewey-eyed optimism Star Trek is generally known for. They showed that even in a world of plenty and comfort, people still have to make tough choices and live with the consequences.

The Voyager Conspiracy - You got to love it when Seven thinks she's suddenly in an Oliver Stone movie.

Good Shepherd - Good story idea and three great performances from the "lower decks" characters. It also introduces Tal Celes, my favorite Voyager recurring character.

Worst Case Scenario - It was just too much fun not to be included.

Honorable Mention - Mortal Coil - It could have been possibly second only to Scorpion, if only they had let Neelix beam back into the nebula.
