Voyager could have fared worse, a Cardassian or Klingon ship could have been sucked by the Caretaker into the Delta Quadrant instead of Chakotay and his Maquis crew. I have the suspicion that crew integration with either of these two alternatives would have been much more difficult than the mostly-human Maquis, fortunately led by a commander with Starflleet experience who didn’t lose his principles. It would have forced the writers to pay much more attention to inter-crew conflict and the challenge of upholding federation rules, since Carddies or Klingons have completely separate non-human, non-federation customs and values.

Wasn't a Cardassian ship sucked into the Delta Quadrent anyways? (good thing VOY didn't invstigate xD)
Also didn't the crew incounter a klingon ship during the last 30, 000 light-years of its joraey? (yea true... that short encounter was brutle)
Yea i mostly agree with you

I don't believe Cardassians would have ever abandoned (or sacrificed) their ship to save themselves on Voyager. Same with Klingons.

The only reason why the crew integration worked so well was because the Maquis leader was an ex-Federation officer and still lived by the same moral codes w/ slight exceptions here and there to get things done as a Maquis.

If Chakotay wasn't willing to be a Starfleet type again there would have been a lot of bad stuff between the crews. But he lead by example and deep down wanted to be in with a non-corrupt (in his mind) version of Starfleet again.

So no, I don't believe another type of alien (MAYBE VULCAN....MAYBE....but imagine all the Pon Far episodes!) crew would have mixed well w/ Voyager.

It was the only ship the Caretaker returned to its place of origin. It was found destroyed in the Badlands.

They were Klingons from the 23rd Century who went to the Delta Quadrant on their own in search for a cure to a disease.

Does it really matter? UPN would've demanded that the Cardassians integrate into the crew quickly just as they demanded that the Maquis do the same.

I think it does matter... And I doubt UPN would have done that

I know, it might be wishful thinking!

They were Maquis for only 9 months or less, so re-integration into their previous regular Federation way of life would not have been that hard. :borg:

Actually, that might be harder... They feel betrayed by Earth. And betrayal is one of the hardest things to forgive, from my pov

Wasn't they searching for that phrophet baby that turned out to be carried by B'Elanna Torres?
