VOY vs ENT, The Showdown!

VOY or ENT?

I prefer Voyager over Enterprise as I actually like at least some of the main characters in Voyager. When I saw the Voyager pilot I actually did want to see more of the show, which I can't say the same for Enterprise. Only reading some of the positive reviews here about the fourth season saw me see more then three complete episodes of the show. But given the choice of which I'd sooner watch from start to end I'd have to go with Voyager.

I've seen all of Voyager and only 76 episodes of Enterprise... so I'm going to go with Voyager. ENT needs a complete rewatch as soon as I win the lottery and buy the complete set.

While VOY had a whole range of great, developed characters (Tuvok, Paris, Seven, EMH, Kim, Janeway, Torres), ENT only really had three (Archer, Trip, T'Pol). So ENT really can't compete with VOY in this field.

But when it comes to episodes, VOY really lacked good interesting stories, and had much more retarded and boring eps than ENT.

Truth be told, I'd rather serve under Janeway than Archer and hang out with Harry, Tom and B'Elanna rather than with Malcolm, Hoshi and Travis, but what's the use of great cast and characters when your not putting them in interesting stories?

I'd pick ENT over VOY any day.

When I watched Voyager, it was the first time I sat in front of a Star Trek series and said to myself, "Oh, this is why some people don't like Star Trek and find it dull and uninspiring. I think I will go do something else now."

To be fair, however, I am just now watching Enterprise on DVD, and I have mixed feelings so far.

I will have to refrain from actually voting for the moment ;)

Kinf like asking "Do you want cancer or bubonic plague?", but I'll take Enterprise over Voyager.
I'll take bubonic plague. At least I might be immune to that.

Enterprise is faintly better, I suppose. Enterprise had a somewhat higher percentage of decent eps. Most compellingly, however, Enterprise only ruined the past; Voyager destroyed the future.

I don't find either of them particularly good, but I dislike Voyager more. My vote goes to Enterprise.

ENT.

However it is true the characters lacked dynamic I just could never say interested in any VOY episode for more than one commercial break. To me VOY was truly horrid. I can't think of a single good episode I've seen from that series. But the ship was pretty cool.

You still haven't gotten through season 2, I take it?

Yeah, I'm about a third of the way through season 2.
So you've survived through "A Night in Sickbay / Marauders / The Seventh?" If so, then the worst is over (those three episodes basically killed the ratings), but don't expect too much from the rest of the season. Seasons 3&4 are infinitely better, IMO.

Yeah, barely. The Seventh was yesterday evening. I thought Minefield was pretty bad, too. This has been a difficult stretch, to say the least ;) I'm glad to hear the show has bottomed out.

It's actually only about a quarter of the season, I realize, but it has taken a long time :)

Voyager: Great idea with mediocre (and somtimes plain bad) execution.

Enterprise: Awful idea with awful execution.

Despite Voyagers problems I still find a lot of things to like about it.

With Enterprise, I dislike the premise, the characters, just everything about it. Plus having one of the most wretched opening themes ever recorded doesn't help much..

For me Voyager wins it by a mile. The Doctor alone is more interesting than every Enterprise character combined.

Neither one of them were very interesting. But Voyager at least had the potential to be interesting, even if it rarely if ever was. Enterprise never even got that far. Also, Voyager had one or two characters that I could tolerate (mostly thanks to the efforts of the actors). Enterprise did not.

Enterprise. Both series had weak captains, but other characters made up for that (the Doctor and Trip, mainly). ENT started a little slow and ended with a whimper, but when it was good, it was good. It was also a lot more consistent than VOY. I also thought ENT's cast had some really fantastic chemistry, even though Malcolm, Phlox, Hoshi, and Travis didn't get as much development as Archer, Trip, and T'Pol (nowhere near as much, in Hoshi and Travis' cases).

Voyager was consistently well-produced, often good, sometimes excellent, sometimes average or just plain bad. It started well, got better but then got overshadowed by DS9 and ran out of steam in its later season as the standalone format employed by traditional Star Trek series' became increasingly outmoded.

Enterprise started badly and struggled with inept concepts (Temporal Cold War anyone?), lack of vision/direction on the part of its producers and repetitive Voyager-esque storylines in its first season before a noticeable improvement in quality emerged in Season 2. This season contained some fantastic eps, some very good ones, plenty of average one and some outright bilge. By Season 3 the series had found its feet, however, and from this point onward Enterprise became a fantastic Trek series. The final season was the prequel we'd been waiting for all along.

So which is better? I have a preference for Enterprise. It was a more flawed series than Voyager, but when it was good it was VERY VERY good.
