Voice Cast

I think they've done a fine job assembling the voice cast. Granted, right now we've only got the trailer to go by, but from what I heard there they all sounded perfect for the characters they're playing. We'll have to wait and see, though, if any one of them turns out to be doing a breakout job.

Again, judging from the trailer only, I really like Tawny Newsome's voice work. And Noël Wells seems to have a lovely singing voice. What's clear from the trailer already is that Dawnn Lewis has the right kind of commanding presence in her voice. And as an old Sliders fan I'm still kind of amazed they were able to score Jerry O'Connell, but it remains to be seen how large his part will actually be.

They sounded surprisingly great in the teaser, the cast can definitely carry this show.

I was pretty confused at first with the female lead character having a really masculine voice, especially in that first "Captain's Log" scene, but otherwise seemed fine. The Caitian was a bit rough

He's married to Rebecca Romijn, the current Number One that was on DISCOVERY. I'm sure that made it easier to nab him.

(Also a SLIDERS fan, here. :) )

The "Captain's log" was from Ensign Brad Boimler (Jack Quaid). The female lead character (Ensign Beckett Mariner, played by Tawny Newsome) interrupted his log and made fun of him for it.

Tawney Newsome (Ensign Mariner) is also in the Netflix/Steve Carell series Space Force as Captain Angela Ali, which is an "OK" show that is totally saved by John Malkovich.

Newsome's Character on Space Force delivers one of the funniest lines on that show as she
makes her "stepping onto the Moon speech" becoming the first black person and woman on the Moon. I won't spoil the line for those watching Space Force but who haven't gotten to that episode yet.

EDIT TO ADD:
Paul Scheer is going to be reoccurring as Lt. Commander Andy Billups, Chief Engineer of the ship.

As a response in that tweet points out, Paul Scheer was in the Adult Swim farce NTSF:SD:SUV:: with Star Trek Alums Kate Mulgrew and Rebecca Romijn.

I like Tendi's and Boimler's voices the most. Tendi's happy sounds when she first meets them are just cute.
But Boimler's voice fits him so perfectly, his facial expressions and moods, it's amazing. I love little details like how he first screams nuqneH!! nuqneH!!! and then decides to tone it down. nuqneH. It's so damn cute!

Is it my imagination, or does Cmdr. Ransom NOT sound like Jerry O'Connell?

Maybe I'm just used to his voice on SLIDERS, and that was over 20 years ago.

I think the voice cast is awesome, and I also think it's pretty cool that they could all plausibly play their characters in live action if there were to ever be a crossover.

Casting has never been an issue for the All-Access folks, and Lower Decks is no exception.
