Voice acting in Legacy - a moot point

It is a very moot point now, but when I played through Legacy (only with the help of the mod community, as the game is useless, even patched, due to the inability to change ships when the timeline changes) I noticed that Kate Mulgrew stood out as by far the best voice acting. She sounded like she just came off the set of Voyager. Too bad she only had about 5 lines in Legacy.

I thought Patrick Stewart's VO in Legacy was his best in years. Back in Elite Force 2 he sounded completely bored but he was a bit more livelier this time round.

Brooks was the worst of the captains in Legacy IMO: it was great to hear Sisko again, but he sounded like he wanted to be anywhere else.

I just played Hidden Evil for the first time around a month ago. His voice work in that is a lot better than Legacy. Of course that was back when TNG films were still in production.

Personally, I think Avery Brooks did the best voice acting in the game, he really sounds just like DS9 never ended and really like he enjoyed himself, even though he was only in one mission.

Stewart and Mulgrew sound awful in the game, Stewart sounded exactly like he did in past post Finaly Unity games, bored and uninstrested, and Mulgrew's voice just sounds as annoying as ever.

Shatner sounded like he needed a cup of coffee to wake him, and Scott sounds like he's just reading straight from the script while he recorded his dialog.

As much as I like Mulgrew, I agree with you Keldor. It really annoyed me how she kept referring to Picard by his first name. A little informal if you ask me. But then again, I suppose that's not her fault, just the writers. ;) As for the rest, the one I least liked was Bakula.

I'd guess they took Janeway's one-sided first name terms with Picard from Nemesis. To be fair though, most Admirals during TNG referred to Picard as "Jean Luc", but then again that was behind closed doors the majority of the time.

Shame they couldn't have got Brooks to record some audio for The Fallen and released that as a little bonus...

Keldor, I think, just doesn't like Kate Mulgrew's voice regardless. I found her grating at first myself. My point, though, is that she sounds consistent with Voyager (even if you hated her in that), something that is hard to do.
With Patrick Stewart, I think his being a stage man is what works against him. Picard's voice was a huge, loud, dramatic stage voice, and he (Stewart) doesn't attain those kinds of energy levels reading into a microphone. It's understandable. He also tends to get a lot of the most boring stuff to read for games. Like in BC as a tutor. Thought he was good in that despite it. Hidden Evil he was good. Just not the Picard level intensity we're used to from TV and film.
I think Shatner has the same problem as Stewart. No audience, no energy to work with.
I'd love to see either DS9 or Voyager come out of left field with a PC title. Of the 5, I think those 2 Captains are best suited to voice over work. Makes sense, they both have deep, characteristic voices, they probably have both done voiceover work prior to Trek I would guess.
But no thread on voiceover is complete without mentioning Dorn, who is great at it.

My main problem with Shatner's voice is that he just sounds old--I had the same problem with 25th anniversary. He's supposed to be Kirk from classic Trek, but he sounds like movie Kirk.
