Well, yes. But why is it that Vulcans can only be science officers? I was speaking of an ambassador/liaison type role during encounters. If you can only accept Vulcans as scientists in cat suits then maybe there is nothing else left to discuss.

I think Munsters point was that T'Pol wasn't there to be a diplomat. Liason/Vulcan advisor perhaps, but she was primarily there as the science officer. As such, I'd have to agree, a diplomat probably wouldn't make a good science officer.
On the other hand, having a dedicated diplomat on those initial mission would have probably made a lot of things go much more smoothly.
oh man, I had to lookup Vlar, I didn't quite recall who she was. yes, experienced vulcan and actress for sure. recurring character, yes, replace tpol - no way.

Before we stop discussing let me make this point. The Enterprise NX-01 was an experimental ship with a limited crew and without the luxury of extra crew positions. They were already relying on the Vulcan Science database, hence the position of a Vulcan Science Officer.
Regarding the catsuit it should of course only be worn by young attractive females with good ear definition.
TOS might have gotten a 4th season if Spock had worn that!

But apparently not too dedicated.
