Variety: 'Star Trek' moved from Christmas '08 to May '09

I hope the :censored:ing writers are happy about that shit. :(

Yeah, well excuse the eff out of me, you weren't the one getting screwed out of content rights by the Producers now, were you?

The WGA Strike was one of the more legitimate walkouts in the history of the industry. Just because Trek won't come out on time doesn't mean the WGA didn't have a case or that their strike wasn't justified.

In the end, we'll probably get a much better product, one that's slated for Prime Time in the movie release slots. Star Trek: Part Deux is being moved to Prime Time because the Suits have seen the rushes and they like what JJ and Orci have produced. They want repeat business from the Kids and they've promised NATO (the National Association of Theater Owners) that this one is worth the investment, the posters, and the theater space.

Also, this makes those teaser posters from Comic-Con very valuble!

Meh.I doubt that.Theres tons of them on ebay and I dont see anyone rushing to bid on them. Plus its a rather unimaginitive poster. I wouldnt pay more than 5 or 6 bucks for it.

Moved ahead to make more money at the box office.

Some of us are trying to stay positive, and maybe the film will be more polished. Yet the article states "It does not need any script tweaks. They're two-thirds of the way through shooting, and we would have delivered a great movie at Christmas."

People, there is no way to look at this positively. We got reamed, pure and simple.

Let's take a quote from The Rock:
"I want you to take that (Star Trek Reboot), shine it up reeeeal nice, turn it sideways... and stick it STRAIGHT UP your CANDY ASS!"

That is what Paramount has said. They did not say anything about wanting to deliver the best possible product. Just that they want more money.

Wait a minute. I hate to be, like, all contrarian and all that shit, but what's wrong with Paramount wanting more money for their investment dollar? Doesn't it stand to reason that the suits believe that summertime is the best time to release their best product? Doesn't that tell you about what Paramount-Dreamworks thinks about what they've seen so far?

After all, it's their 150 Million Dollars, not your 150 Million Dollars!

You want a say in somebody's release date? Go give Cawley a million bucks and tell him to distribute New Voyages to the millions who want to watch a very old Walter Koenig relive his glory years.

Nichelle looked great though. She always does.

Five pages in 14 hours!

I'm glad they're pushing the release date back. I wasn't likely to see this thing on Christmas Day, and Boxing Day would have meant huge crowds.

The writers have more important things to address than whether or not some Trek fans have to wait a bit for a fix. We needn't feel responsible one way or another for this decision - the strike would not have been necessary or could have ended quickly if management had bargained in good faith from the beginning.

End of story, move on.

After consideration, May is a much better release date than December. Much better chance for this to be a hit.

Yeah, we have to wait a while longer, which is a pain - but it will be worth it in the long run. I just wish it was May '08 not '09...
Have you seen May '08s lineup?
Iron Man
Speed Racer
Prince Caspian
Indy 4

Its a good thing its not this May. It'll have enough to deal with with Wolverine:Origins and Angels & Demons and I'm sure something else by the time we actually get to May '09.

(Sigh)

Well, this sucks.

At the end of the day, however, we were already going to have to wait a number of months, so, what's a few more...

Despite knowing it will have to be 5 month MORE of a wait, I am actually happy they'll be delaying the opening of the movie. I was not happy hearing the writers' strike was happening at the same time the movie was being filmed. Now they can do some tweaking if needed on the script and have extra time if they decide they need to reshoot some scenes.

This will also give them time to make sure the post-production is done with some care. The FX and the soundtrack can be worked and enhanced since they won't have to feel rushed to complete the picture. Gee, this has NEVER happened in the history of Trek films before!

Finally, Paramount must feel pretty good with the film so far if they are willing to move it to the summer blockbuster season. I'd say the wait just may well be more than worth it!

:D

Whooah!

Now, wait a minute. Hold the front page. :wtf:

Movie studios want to make money? Are you serious? Are you telling me that studios want their movies to be successful?

Those bastards. I knew it. We all wanted a flop and they went ahead and made a business decision designed to maximise success and ensure future sequels.

The swine.

I trust this move by Paramount.

I mean, how many bad moves has Paramount done in regards to Star Trek in the past 15 years?

But just imagine all the extra shit you and the other mods are going to have to deal with because of 5 extra months of waiting!

I think I've finally found an outlet for my anger.

Yes, the mods.

I shall hurt them.

And I shall keep on... hurting them.

StarMan, hate to disappoint, but you are pretty low on the list of people around here who appear to be interested in hurting us.

That said, I am very pleased....not because I care about this announcement one way or the other...but because this forum has actually made it through an entire 5 page thread without a major argument breaking out!

YAY team! :p

Let me get this straight:

Paramount is moving Christmas to May?

I'm okay with that. Then I'll be able to ride my new bike outside. :)

So is Shatner in this thing? I say put him in a cameo as a disproportionately giant vectoring nacelle!

:p

I´ll be too old for Star Trek in 2009.

Really? What age is "too old"? I'm really curious. Do they card at the theater door? Is there some insidious Thought Police organization which breaks into your mind and makes you stop liking Star Trek at a certain age? Or do you have plans to be commited to a rest home sometime between Xmas'08 and May'09? Tell me! Expiring minds want to know! :cardie:
