Uhh, that Vanguard was an orbital habitat from the 21st century, a good 200 years before Starbase 47 was built. If either one was named after the other, it's the other way around.

During the car ride to Shore Leave last summer, Marco, Keith, Terri and I volleyed numerous variations on the "Verb the Noun" title formula for Vanguard book four. Our favorite of all the ones we came up with was F#@! the Klingons.

For another thing, Distant Early Warning is not really a Vanguard story, it's an SCE story that crosses over with Vanguard.

Oh. So the Lovell and crew wasn't in three books following and doing techy SCE things. Ok. That certainly makes Distant Early Warning its own separate thing then.

Actually, I see it as a very classic-like Star Trek TV progression apropos for the occasion.

DEW - Teaser
HAR - Act 1
STT - Act 2
RTW - Act 3.

Next episode please.

As another poster has already pointed out, it's not necessary to explain anything of the sort. Much of what transpires in the books would not be public knowledge, not even those elements that are intended to demonstrate its lasting effects on the Federation.

Case in point: Curzon Dax played a significant role in the resolution of the Betreka Nebula Incident in The Art of the Impossible, a mere few decades before the timeframe of Deep Space Nine. Did you feel it necessary to demand an "in-universe" explanation for why Dax never discussed this protracted astropolitical struggle that shaped Klingon-Cardassian relations for decades afterward? If not, why demand such an explanation for Vanguard?

Yeah, I guess you do kinda have a point there.

While I haven't finished Reap the Whirlwind yet (just over half way), it sounds like an appropriate next title could be "Weathering the Storm" or possibly "Lifting the Fog." These of course also keep with a sort of weather theme.

And BTW, I've got to say Mr. Mack even after only half of the book I'm loving it so much that I can tell this will be yet another top ten book for me. You have stolen half of the spots on my top ten list.

I wouldn't presume to speak for Dayton and Kevin, as the title of the next book is really up to them and Marco.

I don't get why every time the third part of a series comes out people assume it is a trilogy

it's the Lord of the Rings Effect. it also happens with movies, to wit, X-3 and Spidey 3. yes, both resolve many ongoing plot lines and character arcs (harry's and Jean's for 2) but it doesn't preclude there being more movies with new stories. I WANT TO SEE THE LIZARD GODDAMMIT! AND SINISTER!

Even with 15 Trek books still to read on my ever-expanding reading list, I have ordered RTW along with MU:OA and DS9R:TOF, but I won't get them from Amazon UK till the end of June at the earliest, and mid-July at the latest, as the website tells me available in 4-6 weeks.

Dave, just a quick question. How many people have you killed of this time?

I just finished part 1 last night, and so far it is great. It seemed to be mostly set up for that first part, but it was deffinitely a good set up and I am very curious to see exactly how the events play out. So far 9/10.

The implication to me is

that he is not dead due to the minipedia in the back that says "Lost right arm in action against Shedai sentinels on Gamma Tauri IV." Where as everybody else who died in RTW states something about them being KIA.

I didn't read DEW, so I did not know about that story. I meant trilogy in that the Shedai/ Tholian story that ran through all 3 was conclude at the end of RTW, and I wait with bated breath for the next Vanguard installment!
