Vanguard: Reap the Whirlwind

Re: Vanguard: Reap the Whirlwind excerpt is up

I guess this means I have to get used to people referring to me by name around here. :D

I assume you mean you're Mike Kidd, of the Acknowledgements page?

hmm... my old school principle was called Michael Kidd. You wouldn't happen to lived in aussie land for the past 20 years, would you? :)

^ If you wanted to remain anonymous, you could have declined to tell me your real name when I asked last October. Now you must grapple with the fickle demands of fame. ;)

Now I'm just trying to figure out a clever way to have the book "accidentally" open to the acknowledgements page while I have my credit card swiped when I go to buy it.

Does the series bible have more information than has been revealed in the books so far?

Where else would they write it? If each novel is progressing towards some kind of plot arc culmination, as has been suggested, the official contributors do need to know where they're heading.

Yeah, I guess that was kind of a stupid question.

An Aussie non-fiction book for kids about the history of chewing gum(!) has a colour photo inside of me showing off my Star Trek gum card collection. I was in a second hand book shop recently and they had two remaindered copies of the book on display for a great price. When I approached the woman at the counter, I flipped open the book and smiled at her. I got a discount on my discount!

But yeah, it does help to have the photo. I've tried pointing out my name in the Acknowledgements page of "Ex Machina" at bookshop counters, but they weren't as impressed and it never results in discounts. ;)

So your new aim is to be the next Captain Calhoun and be on the cover of a ST novel. Gosh, he even got an action figure from Playmates!

I wonder if Keith Birdsong's neighbour gets mobbed in science fiction bookshops?

Dave, I've just gotten hold of a copy of Reap the Whirlwind and am eagerly devouring it.

But, I just wanted to say one thing:

Love the Clerks riff with "Ensign O'Halloran" and "Ensign Anderson." The best part?

"I'm not even supposed to be here today!"

Re: Vanguard: Reap the Whirlwind excerpt is up

^ My favorite part of that scene is when they calculate how long their synthetic ice will last: "About twelve minutes." :D

Doubt it. Judging by the cover of "No Limits," he doesn't look too much like Calhoun. ;)

WOW! I've begun to read Reap The Whirlwind tonight ....this is fantastic! And the minipedia at the back of the book....freakin' awesome!

Agreed. Fifty pages in and I'm loving it. It's great!

The minipedia is very helpful, except for the fact that it contains spoilers for RTWW itself.

Re: Vanguard: Reap the Whirlwind excerpt is up

Yeah, I discovered that myself. But once I figured it out I made to sure to stop reading when the stuff I was reading didn't sound familiar.

Ooooo, I didn't even realize the Clerks connection was there. I do love the stuff with those two, very funny stuff. Did you create them from this book or are they from the other TOS SCE stories?

Re: Vanguard: Reap the Whirlwind excerpt is up

I got my copy today. I had it preordered but I had it shippied with my copy of Epic Movie and they both came today which is great because I am going on vacation tomorrow and I can take it with me.

Re: Vanguard: Reap the Whirlwind excerpt is up

^ If I recall correctly, Dayton and Kevin created them for the 23rd-century S.C.E. crew on the Lovell, though they might not have been given first names at that point. I took it a step further and made the homage completely overt.

As for the spoilers in the minipedia, I apologize for that -- but we put it in the back of the book for a reason... :)

Re: Vanguard: Reap the Whirlwind excerpt is up

I glanced at the minipedia and it looks great, thanks for including it.
