Re: Vanguard: Reap the Whirlwind excerpt is up

I think as long we're talking about RtW we're ok. If not the mods probably would have told us to get back on topic by now.

Well, if anything the title of the thread should be trimmed to reflect that this is pretty much the book's general reaction thread.

Mods?

Re: Vanguard: Reap the Whirlwind

Just finished it and all I can think of is WOW! What a book, the amount of detail was just amazing. I am still digesting things and will be back with more. Thanks to David.

^ Glad you enjoyed it, JAG.

Hi. I I've just picked up this book at Wal-Mart. I have read the first book and loved it but haven't been able to find the second one. Should I wait and read the second story or go ahead and read Reap The Whirlwind? Any suggestions would be appreciated.

Re: Vanguard: Reap the Whirlwind

They recap the first two books, but it would still be alot easier to follow if you could find the second book. I don't know where you are but, amazon.com, amazon.co.uk and amazon.ca all have it.

Re: Vanguard: Reap the Whirlwind

The references will be easier to follow if you have read the second book, but if you can't find a copy and want to start on RtW, go ahead -- anything you'd need to know from previous books has been incorporated into the story for exactly this reason.

Re: Vanguard: Reap the Whirlwind

If something is absolutely not making sense from the text itself, you also have the option to look in the glossary at the end.

Re: Vanguard: Reap the Whirlwind

^ But be cautious about that, as the minipedia contains spoilers for Reap the Whirlwind itself.

Re: Vanguard: Reap the Whirlwind

Finished reading Reap the Whirlwind and all I can say is WOW, WOW, WOW!!!! You have outdone yourself David. The story was mysterious, supsensful and all out action. I just can't believe you had the guts to:
kill thousands of colonists as well as a colony. I think it took a lot of guts to commit mass genocide.

I also like that:
Tim was finally redeemed. I was hoping he would be.

The best part is that it ends in a cliffhanger that literally leaves us hanging. I didn't want it to end. I wanted to know what happened now.

That's the sign of a good writer when you leave them wanting more and that's what I want and as such, I can't wait to see how Ward/Dillmore continue it.

Re: Vanguard: Reap the Whirlwind

Julio and Marc, thanks for your review and your comments, respectively. I'm glad you both enjoyed the book and are looking forward to future installments. I can only hope that you're not the only ones who feel that way. ;)

getting there, David, getting there. That book has to arrive in Oz first.

Re: Vanguard: Reap the Whirlwind

I'm wondering something David:

Will we see Enterprise making a cameo again?

Re: Vanguard: Reap the Whirlwind

I don't know. It's possible, but I have no idea what direction the series will go next. We'll just have to wait and see.

Re: Vanguard: Reap the Whirlwind

So I'm not the only one who thinks of Vanguard reminds him of Lost. Don't get me wrong that is a huge compliment, because Lost is one of my all time favorite TV shows.

Re: Vanguard: Reap the Whirlwind

^ The irony, of course, is that I've never watched a single moment of Lost, so the comparison is lost on me.

I really don't see it. The only correlation to Lost I see is that they both have a long in-depth mystery to solve. Beyond that, nothing else. I love Lost too, but I just don't see the relationship.

Re: Vanguard: Reap the Whirlwind

You know I was surprised at the ending of the book. I was not suspecting what happened either. I just hope everything continues in the next book.
