Vanguard Precipice- It's been read. Probable spoilers

^ Thanks, Mike! Glad you enjoyed both books. I think there might be an OT thread for Promises Broken lurking somewhere in this forum. If you find it, I'd be keen to hear your specific thoughts about my The 4400 novel.

Which, if any, of the Hofstaders the one in the book is named after?

Cool, that was my first thought. But then when I went to double check which character had that last name, I found two real world physicists names Hofstadter (they're father and son).

Given that show's tendency toward geek references, I wouldn't be surprised if that character in the show were named for AI researcher Douglas R. Hofstadter, author of the classic book Godel, Escher, Bach: An Eternal Golden Braid.

I really enjoyed the book. And what an ending!!!!!!

I seriously cannot wait for the next book, whenever it is. I enjoyed Precipice so much I went back to Harbinger to start the series all over again.

Yeah, that was my first thought after I saw the search result.

Is anyone surprised that T'Prynn cannot play piano anymore?

Not really. I'm not saying I was expecting it or that it was predictable, but it wasn't all that surprising either. But it makes sense when you think about what all she's been through. And if I recall, it isn't so much that she can't play anymore, just that she no longer takes any solace in it. I believe the book said she hit all the notes, but they just sound hollow to her.

^ Not exactly. It's more that the emotional turbulence created by T'Prynn's possession created a need in her for emotional expression, and the only way she found to do it without overtly violating the dictums of Vulcan logic was to play music. Her psychic imbalance both created her need to play and infused her performance with passion, enabling her to achieve temporary periods of catharsis.

Another great Vanguard outing by Mack. I'm really loving this series... too bad the next one's so far away.

I've seen some of the other in-jokes referenced in the thread, but I haven't seen this one specifically mentioned... so I just wanted to say that I had a chuckle at the South Park reference! :)

^ Just to show you how much my memory has deteriorated in recent years, I don't remember inserting a South Park in-joke into Precipice. Can you refresh my memory?

Sorry I wasn't back to the thread earlier to respond, but as Turtletrekker correctly surmised, I was referring to Commander Marqlar.
