i'm not sure why, but i really like the design of the Takahasi. i think it might be because it'd be an excellent vessel for a star trek RPG campaign -- distinctive, fast, relatively well armed, and relatively small.

It's strange how some designs just seem to ring a bell with people. I agree, I like the Takahasi! It would be nice if someone did up a perspective view of this, to get a better feel for her. What are those boxes on the aft saucer cuts?

Well, for me, I don't like the unbalanced look of single or triple nacelle vessels. A lot of the designs Vance has been presenting are of those variety. This one looks balanced, well-designed, and mean.

"Takahasi" might be a misspelling. If it's supposed to be Japanese, "Takahashi" would be correct.

Oddly enough, the name's real... I found it when I was doing a search for the Hawakara to see where THAT name came from. (Though, I would have guessed the romanization of 'Takahazi'.. but that could just be preference)

A confusing topic! The most commonly used romanzation system in both Japan and the West (the Hepburn system) accurately transliterates the sound "shi" as "shi." However, in the Japanese-developed but less commonly used transliteration systems (Nihon-shiki and kunrei-shiki) there's a closer correspondence with Japanese writing (kana) systems, but the way a Westerner would read it does not always follow the sounds correctly. For example, in Nihon-shiki the sound "shi" is written "si," and the sound "tsu" is written "tu." I always think Nihon-shiki looks funny.

Takahashi (meaning "high bridge") is a common family/place name in Japanese, and is usually transliterated with "shi." That's the way it would appear in a Japanese passport or on a road sign. So, I strongly reccomend "Takahashi"

Todd's Detroyat, Uprated to TMP Specs

I love it. But I noticed that you made the primary hull lines curved like the E-A. One of the unique things about the original Detroyat was the straight primary hull lines. It made the straight secondary hull lines work.

On this there is a bit of a disconnect between the now-curved saucer lines and the still-straight secondary hull lines. Maybe if you wanted to keep the curved lines, you could add a bit of a slight curve to the secondary hull?

Actually, I played with the secondary hull a lot, including 'rounding' it to better fit the common 'dish' of the period, and felt that the ship lost too much character that way. When I had the thought of lowering the torpedo bay there instead... I admit, I really liked the change, personally. This is one of the few designs I've done that I'm fond of, honestly.
