News Van Sprang: Leland, AI And The Borg

Well you could, but you shouldn't, because it's literally not. There's nothing to assimilate into here. I would rather words keep their meanings.
Leland's body was assimilated by Control's consciousness.

It's not that Borg are a perfect fit, buuuut... it's pretty damning. If this was any other sci-fi show, we'd all be like "Look at them, they are stealing Borg from Star Trek, someone should sue them"
I'm sure by now some lawyers would be weighing in on both sides of a potential lawsuit.

But within Star Trek, yeah, it kinda looks like Borg, maybe not exactly Borg, but it definitely got that Borg vibe. Oh hey, if everything needs to be 25%, maybe they'll call it Bork or something.. ;)

They're so retro they only listen to Sugarcubes ablums, no Bjork's solo stuff.

I've got the perfect way to see off Control!Leland when he's finally destroyed.

The novel was stupid and had so many plot holes it was painful to even read at times...

Sure...while it's possible that this will be the Borg origin, I don't think it is necessarily the case, nor do I think it is probable that it is the case.

Like I said before, there have been non-Borg examples in several episodes across all Star Trek series where some entity took over a body and otherwise acted like them. We've also had non-Borg nanobots (Wesley's nanites) control and speak through Data, although I realize Data is an android.

There's no reason that this again could be another example of those non-Borg cases of people being possessed/controlled by another entity.

Well, everyone knows that V'GER is the true origin of the Borg. ;)
Wasn't this theory supported by DC Fontana herself in her contributions to the Star Trek Legacy PC game? From https://memory-alpha.fandom.com/wiki/V'ger :

In the game Star Trek: Legacy, it is said that V'ger itself created the Borg to gain the knowledge by assimilation. The Star Trek: Voyager episode "Dragon's Teeth" seems to contradict the game's storyline, as the character of Gedrin states to Seven of Nine that his species, the Vaadwaur, had encountered the Borg over nine centuries prior to his revival, placing the Borg's genesis at least as far back as around the year 1400 AD. The story writers for Star Trek: Legacy, however, claimed on the official game forum that Voyager 6 was meant to have been thrown back in time as well as across the galaxy, an aspect mentioned in the "extras" cut-scenes of the game itself.

The Control in tonight' episode ("Through the Valley of Shadows") didn't look much like Borg, which is good. As I said in the review thread it was more like the replicators from SG1. Others thought it was more like skynet and Terminator.

It has aspects from both of those things. And almost nothing in common with the Borg.

I hate all this Borg rumours. Did the Borg travel back in time to try to destroy humanity in the movie First Contact? If so Control would have never been made to begin with.

You nailed it. You don't make a better future for yourself by killing your parents before they create you.

True but the Star Trek Destiny novel wouldn't work also because of that.
