Vampire TV series

The Ultraviolet series was outlandish stuff about vampire hunters angsting over their killing vampires, since so many of them were loved ones and/or the temptations of immortality. In six episodes, I vaguely recall at least half being about the personal relationships. It was truly fascinating in a train wreck sort of way. It was made with great sincerity, though, which helps.

The original Dark Shadows are gloriously demented, being a soap opera that realized that actually having things happen, no matter how ludicrous, was the key to being entertaining. Nonetheless it is a sixties soap. Be warned. I would watch it for nostalgia myself.

Forever Knight was entertaining in a so bad it's fun way. It helps if you have a personal liking for the lead actor.

I think I read that Kindred was based on a role-playing game, which would explain things.

Never saw Buffy, Angel, Blade, Blood Ties, Moonlight or Dracula: The Series.

I guess all in all, I'd have to recommend the Ultraviolet series. The TV standard for vampires isn't very high, is it?

Well, except for BUFFY and ANGEL, which are pretty much the gold standard. And definitely worth checking out.

This thread makes me realize: other than Dark Shadows (which doesn't really count since I was too young to have any taste and I'm sure it would be horrible to try to watch now :rommie:) there has never been a vampire show I liked! Maybe I'll try getting into Buffy and Angel. Again.

What is it about vampires that turns me off, I wonder. Maybe that it's always about the same old stuff, vampires who don't wanna kill waa waa waa, oh get a grip, it's too whiny for me. What I wouldn't give for a Dexter type vampire, just go after the people who deserve it, maybe that's Bad Blood?

I'm a big fan of Forever Knight. Have all three seasons on DVD, and I'm actually in the process of a reviewing.

It doesn't have the greatest production values, but it does have a good time poking fun at itself every now and then. The third season really suffered from USA and SciFi interfering in the style of the show, killing off the comic relief that was Nick's partner. In the end, it's the interactions between Lacroix, Nick and Janette that make this show. And what beats a tragic ending? Underrrated show. 2nd season's the best.

Another nod here for "Blade: The Series" (been meaning to get the box set) and "True Blood". :bolian: I also enjoyed the "Dark Shadows" revival, but it was sooo long ago I can't remember much about it other than it starred Ben Cross.

I loved it too and have the DVDs. I've been reading the online virtual forth season; it's pretty good! I've got one "episode to go.

Lunar Legend Tsukihime was just rereleased in a very afordable set.

There's also the recent Hellsing remake but that's not complete yet.

really? I thought I read that you didnt like anime? I just thought Id post the suggestion anyway.:p I dont know wether you should watch the series or the new OVAs though. I havent seen the OVAs yet but I heard theyre actually better than the series.

Well, each has their own pros and cons. For instance, the TV series is fully available and has better music, but the latest remake follows the manga better (which had a more interesting storyline) and has updated animation, however, it comes out the agonizing pace of 1 45 minute episode a year and is only half done. :(

For the ladies in the house there's also Vampire Knight, although it's not to bad for guys either. The books are out but nobody has brought over the animated version yet.
