I got a "cleaning house" vibe with this one. Rekha Sharma's character being a V is something I picked up on the first time she appeared on screen, so no surprise there. Jane Badler was brilliant - not wasted at all. I didn't expect her to do a reprise of Diana. Instead, we get some well-written discussion about what makes humans human, and the possibility that Badler's character might not be a villain. Or at the very least she falls into "My enemy's enemy is my friend".
Unfortunately, the discussion about souls is probably too deep for the mass American audience. We already have one website (By the Numbers) declaring V cancelled based on last week's ratings alone (though they've also declared Fringe cancelled based solely upon it having been moved to Friday, so I don't really have much respect for that site's opinion). I'm sure some high-falutin' discussion about souls probably won't endear the show to people who want laser guns and catsuits. (Edit: I just read some of the comments above, and was proven correct.) Though I will say it has Rockne O'Bannon's fingerprints all over it! The whole souls bit is classic Farscape.
That's OK. They can cancel the show if they want to - I'm satisfied that we finally got to see a modern-day homage to the classic V mouse-eating scene! I pumped the air (and yes it did look a bit cheesy - obviously intentional because no one does cheesy in 2011 ... right?).
