"V" and Chuck not quite done.

Yay for Chuck and V even though I'm not crazy about either show. Boo for Flashforward. I initially didn't care for the show but ever since they came back from the winter break it's been a lot more interesting. Still, I dunno how they could carry the story past this season.

I'm still way behind on FlashForward on my DVR. I think I'm still back in 2009 with it. But it seemed like a good show although it was starting to get a bit stale. There are several characters that you just don't care about anymore.

V is boring for me. The resistance people seem totally inept and incapable of pulling off anything resembling a threat to the aliens. It does remind me of Earth:Final Conflict. Just a whole lot of nothing going on.

I still like Chuck a lot. I think of it as more of a comedy than a serious show so I'm a bit more forgiving.

I come from the Joss Whedon school of TV, which states that watching two characters be happy and in love together is the most boring thing in the world.

I have heard this before and I just don't get it. Whether they aired all 12 episodes in the spring or 4 in the fall and 8 in the spring doesn't the fact V is flat-out dull. Would it have made the characters any more interesting? the storylines any more compelling? the Vs any more intriguing as a species and villian? If people liked the show in those first 4 episodes they would have stuck around for it in the spring. And I could argue that the break was the best thing that could have happened to the show so they could find a new showrunner and retool it.

The only problem with V is the mediocre writing.

Exactly, there were not enough begining episodes (4) over time to build a steady base, then, what they had of an audience, had to wait till March so the momentum crashed there a bit. Abc had no faith in the show from the beginning so they only ordered 4 episodes.

Why blame the hiatus for the audience tuning out and not coming back for it in the spring--I think those first four episodes themselves caused people to not tune back in. I might be mistaken but the ratings weren't great back then.

No surprise on either count. TV shows struggle in the ratings more than ever nowadays, so what constitutes a "success" is being scaled down. Both shows are consistent in the ratings, even if the ratings are low.

Both ABC and NBC are introducing a horde of new shows in the fall, and they know most of them won't even grab onto a small but loyal audience. Better hang onto anything that even semi-works.

Chuck needs to find a new direction to go instead of just spinning its wheels.

As of this week, I think they've introduced that new direction. It'll carry them through at least 13 eps...

I'd wager the hiatus would have put a significant dent in the ratings even if the show's first four episodes had all been top notch. There's too much competing for viewers eyes and time to worry about some show you barely got to know before the network brilliantly decided to give it a 4 month hiatus.
