"V" and Chuck not quite done.

Michael Ausiello is reporting that "V" and Chuck have both been picked up for renewal for next season, and have both recieved 13 episode orders.

And in other news Flash Forward is canceled.

I like Chuck more than "V" at the moment, but I'm actually looking forward to see what "V" can do with another season. Chuck needs to find a new direction to go instead of just spinning its wheels.

Yay! Chuck

Meh for "V". I gave up on it a week or so ago after trying to stick it out to see if it was ever going to improve and while it temporarily seemed like it might be improving with the new showrunner it just ultimately couldn't hold my interest. It isn't an awful series just a rather dull one. The characters weren't interesting, the plot could have made up for it but the storylines were more of a case of weekly stumbling from one resistance tactic to the next and the Vs themselves weren't very interesting. The show never did develop the right approach to mixing in interesting revelations, twists or giving the show a sense of urgency. The only thing it really had going was Morena Baccarin's mesmerizing performance as the Queen but that alone was not enough to sustain my interest. Frankly I thought it deserved cancellation.

Have you seen the few most recent episodes? I'd say Chuck has definitely found its new direction.

My only hope is that they are given enough warning when they do eventually get canceled so that they can wrap up the story in a satisfactory way.

Yeah, I've seen the latest Chuck episodes. The problem for me is that the episode where Shaw got killed(or not) and they resolved everything and left Chuck and company in a very happy place, seemed like the perfect place to end the show.

In the three episodes since then we've had two filler one-off episodes, and the latest episode where they introduced some new stuff that is obviously going to build up to the season finale. But it isn't really going to change anything. Sarah and Chuck are in love, and they both like being spies.

I come from the Joss Whedon school of TV, which states that watching two characters be happy and in love together is the most boring thing in the world. Chuck can continue doing filler episodes with the random minor roadblock thrown in his way. And I'll watch the show because it is fun, and enjoyable light fluff. But it would be great if it went somewhere deeper.

"V" on the otherhand does not seem limited by its premise. It just seems limited by the poor writing and characterizations so far. Which is why I'm more excited for it to return than for Chuck.

Underlined for emphasis.

 I know what you mean. I don't find it boring at all, but I keep expecting something really awful to happen. It's really not the type of show to do it, but I kind of want Chuck to die in the end.

Well it would totally change the tone and nature of the show, but having Sarah die would really be an interesting direction for the show to take I think.

Not that it will ever happen.

Good for Chuck, one of the best shows on tv.

I'm glad V's back, its not the V I grew up with, but maybe they can improve.

Not at all surprised about Flash Forward being canned.

Glad to hear Chuck's getting renewed.

I'm guessing ABC is keeping V on in hopes of it attracting the SFF crowd now that Lost is done. Unfortunately V is a turd sandwich to Lost's hamburger.

Not surprised about FlashForward. How they managed make the premise so utterly boring with a decent cast boggles my mind.

I think V does decent enough in the 18-49 demo in the 10pm hour for ABC that they decided to keep it and next season with just 13 episodes will show it start to finish and not have a long hiatus.

Maybe knowing they're on a short leash, V will finally stop dicking around, answer some questions, and move plots forward in a significant way.

Fictitiously yours, Trent Roman

Yay! Chuck

Meh for "V".

Reverse that and you've got me.

"V" has actually been finding its feet lately and I have been enjoying it. Looking forward to seeing where it goes.

As for "Chuck", I don't watch it and the only time I caught part of an episode it was just some douche guys hanging out in Tandy's or something.

But I must admit, we were on holidays in New Zealand and since my partner and I were staying at the Powderhorn Chateau, in the same room Elijah Wood had for six weeks, we were more interested in ahh, "christening" the spa bath, the bed and anywhere else we were sure had Elijah had "spent some time".

;) :p

13 for Chuck huh? another sudo series finale followed by another a few weeks later.
Agreed. I think NBC's going to extend Chuck a little bit past that initial 13 episode order, just like they did this year.

But to be honest, I never expected Chuck to make it past season three (and it very nearly never even made it that far!), so anything after this season is just gravy, as far as I'm concerned. :techman:

One thing that might help Chuck next season is that it will have(assuming season 4 remains 13 episodes) a total of 67 episodes. I'm not sure what the minimum episode count is these days for syndication, but that has to be getting close.

I haven't seen the last two eps of V yet, but FlashForward had better cast, better premise, less Earth:Final Conflict, although somewhat hazy writing. And also what's it with Braga's shows getting cancelled??? I LOVED THRESHOLD! :)

Definitely good news about Chuck. The most recent shakeups (adding Morgan to the team and further exploring the effects of the intersect) have made me especially interested in seeing this show continue. But I do hope that when it comes time to end, the writers are aware of it in time to send the show out right, and not on an unresolvable cliffhanger.
