"Utopia" question

So i'm rewatching "Utopia" and I was wondering about what the master was doing in this scene. Maybe I missed the explanation beforehand

Were the humans on the rocket really going to get to Utopia or did the master remove the guidance chip, and then they were forced to cannibalize themselves into Tocalafane when all hope was lost.

He kept the coordinates to find Utopia himself. Which he later did with Lucy.

The humans did get to Utopia, but it wasn't the haven they hoped for.

Yeah, the cannibalization was because after all the stars went out and the remaining humans at Utopia were left screaming impotently at the dark and emptiness, that was how the attempted to survive.

T'was a paradox. The humans in the future were guided by the Master to go to Utopia, the only reason the Master knows of Utopia is because of his past self telling the humans of it, which makes them go and The Master turning them in to the Toclafane.

They're on Messaline, though; he couldn't shut down the broadcast as it's coming from outer space.

I dunno, I guess I'm just vague on how much the Master had a hand in the birth of the Toklafane. Did he just send humanity off to a death trap, or had he created something nasty there beforehand (say for example, some futuristic cybermen-like creatures who started converting humans as soon as they arrived?) All I can assume is its something he set up in advancebefore he turned himself human.

The of course theres no hint how he was able to contact them later from Earth.
