No, I've seen better pictures of Alex Kingston's arm. They're scratched off numbers, done the way you do four tick marks with a fifth crossing it to indicate five. So, River's been counting something, and she's marking it on her bare skin.

I am reaching my limit with the River Song character due to the overly prolonged use of mysterious bad-assery. However, Alex Kingston's glorious hotness makes up for a lot of it.

It's the "Boba Fett Effect" (says that 5 times fast). You have a mysterious character, fans latch on him/her and you figure "Hey, let's use them more and the fans will love us." So you use the character over and over without revealing anything-- annoying the fans to hell and back-- and when you do reveal something it's not as cool as the fans have built up an expectation for.
