USS Voyager (eventually) on Picard?

The one thing that Picard did do that probably made a huge splash in the Federation News, was to destroy the career of a well known and beloved Star Fleet Admiral by pointing out publicly, her growing paranoia.
His run in with Admiral Satie was I'm sure, a highlight of that weeks Federation News cycle.
News Anchor: The debate over Romulan Refugees continues unabated and looks like it will become one of the key issues of the 2400 UFP Presidential Election. Increased demand for second-hand Borg technology is putting several new organizations on the Nasdaq. President Brunt is considering placing sanctions on Borg technology, citing that he wants to put the Federation first...

... and in other news: Jean-Luc Picard, a disgraced former Starfleet Admiral, made scathing comments about recently reinstated Nora Satie following her swift promotion to Fleet Admiral.

And now over to Tandy and a story about a targ who was reunited with his owner after five years...

Except the one we have been talking about.... :)
Q himself mentions it in the beginning and in the end.
It's there.
Whether one likes it or not.
At least for me it's there. FanFic.
Considering Q was a last minute addition to Farpoint in order to inflate the episode to two hours by request of the studio who wanted a telemovie to launch TNG, that would mean this "arc" was quite unintentional and not part of TNG's original premise anyway.

Wow, I did not know that. Honestly, the episode would have been brutally boring without him and the series was much better for having him.

More's the pity that he was included, from my view. Nothing against de Lancie, or his acting, but Q as an omnipotent judge who gives tacit approval to our band of heroes is irritating to me. Its part of the reason that I can't muster through Encounter of Farpoint. It's not enjoyable.

Picard's awards at the First Duty exhibit:
Grankite order of tactics for the Picard Maneuver
Legion of honor
Vulcan dignified person award
Vulcan crystal planet award for peace negotiations
Andorian and Bajoran awards (unclear in pictures)

I suppose Janeway got a Ship Brought Home Award or something. :D

Nope. For it to run through it would have to be the focus of the series. Not just pop up at the end in borderline fanwank.

For me the trial of humanity is the focus of TNG. Might I be the only one with this idea? I don't know.
No matter how many times someone says it's not, I still think it is. It makes the series something more than just aliens and starships. It gives meaning to the whole series.

Original premise or not, last second addition or not, that's how it ended up on TV.

What people are really saying is that the series didn't have an arc.

The Klingon arc - from Gowron taking over to civil war to Duras sisters to Generations - plenty of references to previous events
The Sela arc, although that’s really part of the Klingon arc
Character arcs, Wesley and Ro come to mind
The Borg arc

There were ongoing story lines and references to previous episodes throughout TNG. just because it wasn’t serialised doesn’t mean there were no threads and continuing stories.

Those are story arcs within the series. None is a series arc.

The things that Paul Weaver listed above can be much more interesting than one big story arc. If everything is about the same thing it can get repetitive and boring. I'm not saying it will but too much of good stuff could get repetitive.
A storyline doesn't have to run for months or years in every episode, it can be visited two or five times a year.
There's examples above, like the Klingon Empire thing in TNG. They visit Klingon homeworld, next week something else. Later they can visit Klingon homeworld again because on an earlier visit some storyline was left open. Then something else, then back to Klingon homeworld and it's fresh again.

If an ongoing trial was on everyone's minds the whole time, the whole crew would've gotten "WWQD" bracelets, and we never would've heard the end of it.

The trial thing was revealed in the last episode.
Perhaps because the Q wanted the crew to behave and react normally as if nothing out of the ordinary was going on.

Doesn't make it a running thread. Just a story beat that pops up twice.

Also, more interesting would have been Q popping up to deal with Picard's obsession over the Borg.

When are the others? Even Memory Alpha has the arc as two episodes (counting Encounter and All Good things as one episode a piece).

"Hide & Q" (Season 1) and "True Q" (Season 6). But "Hide & Q" is a terrible example because Q said they were exonerated. In "True Q", the much better example, Q says the jury is still out. They probably put that out there so they'd have something to work with in the future, if they wanted to.

The trial is also mentioned in "Q Who?" (Season 2) but strictly referred to in the past.

Thanks Garth. I knew that TNG rewatch would pay off for you :)
