USS Kelvin, Speculation, in 3D!

Not too shabby.

It's a weird design, though, since from some angles the nacelle almost completely disappears. It would probably look cool in motion, tough.

Speculate no more!

Holy crap, I got pretty close!

:)

Note, however, that this image isn't 100% true to the earlier screenshot: the hatches for the pop-up "CIWS cannon" are either missing, or then mispositioned and misdimensioned.

The Intel site also displays a "cleaned up" version of the actual, bow-on screenshot, with the three plus three hatches in their proper places. Perhaps they had various versions of the CGI model made available to them, and this one with the red background is an older one that never will be seen in the movie?

So the Kelvin's using the Jupiter 2 from Lost in Space as a bridge?

:guffaw:

Damn it, 'fisher! I was liking that ship up until that remark!
I built a model of the Jupiter 2 (from Lunar Models) a number of years ago... complete with interior (granted, like so many sci-fi ships, the "filming interior" simply won't fit into the exterior... and, of course, there were multiple and significantly different, exteriors anyway).

But I saw that the moment I saw this ship, too. I suspect it's another one of those "throw it in as an in-joke" bits... though I've come to HATE those things (ET in the Republic Senate? R2-D2 and C-3PO in heiroglyphics in the Well of Souls? Dave Bowman's pod in Watto's junkyard?) It's waaaaay too "cute" and it ruins the scenes as far as I'm concerned... it pulls you out of any sense of "suspension of disbelief."

But for anyone who's not familiar with it... let me present you with the Jupiter 2!

MadMan, maybe now that we have a better view of the Kelvin, would you consider updating your model?

Maybe for Star Trek Legacy? :D

Wow, it does look like that. :)

That's more than a passing resemblance.

Computer voice at XO bridge station on USS Kelvin: "Danger, Danger George Kirk!" :D

We'll know something's up if crewman Smith starts moaning about his aching back during the battle scenes.
