USS Kelvin, Speculation, in 3D!

I hadn't seen anyone start one of these up yet, so I thought I would give it a shot.

I'm going to have to totally improvise on these pylons (or pylon) the entire warp engine, and other details, but I can change those as time goes on. :)

Anyone else want to have a go at it, as well? I know I'm not the only one that's thinking about it!

Good thinking, Mad! I think you've got the perspective in the EW shot right. Now what does it look like from other perspectives?

Not like much, as of yet. I've only been at it for about an hour. :) I think I will make up some engines that look similar to Gabe Koerner's ship. We'll see how it goes. :)

This thing doesn't look graceful, though, that's for sure.

Ok, here we go...

First of all, this is almost totally conjecture. I am not even sure what the back of the pod is supposed to do, or if that really is a nacelle on the bottom. It will be interesting to see.

So, how close am I? :)

While I never liked the Saladin-Class, this one here looks nice.

We'll see how close you are once the movie is out :) ;)

I'm telling you guys ... the top blue thing is not a movie-era deflector dish. It's the 'turbine' at the front of the warp nacelle like we saw in the teaser of the E being built. It probably spins up a glows when they go to warp in some 'kewl' effect.

The Kelvin must have the same type of nacelles.
It then follows that the reddish/goldish thing that we can just see below the saucer in the released image is a TOS era deflector dish.

It quite probably is the deflector since it is convex.

I don't know about that... It looks a bit different than the front of those nacelles in the trailer. This thing looks too short to be an engine... It would almost have to be like Jet Engine Nacelle. I hope that's not the idea...that would be...ridiculous.

(I really hope the nacelle is on the bottom. ;) )

I have a suspicion all warp engines are gonna be a bit shorter than we recall. And while I agree the "navigational deflector" looks concave (you did mean concave instead of convex, right ST-One?), It's possible the turbines are set into the throat of warp engines like the turbines on a turbo-jet engine and what we see that makes it look concave is actually just light falling on the inner rim.

Also, it looks bulkier and wider than a nacelle.

J.

Does it necessarily have to be a nacelle or a deflector? Maybe it is a big super-LASER weapon of some sort and the two nacelles are positioned in a way that can't be seen in that image.

Either way, it doesn't look like a nacelle to me.

Yes, I agree it doesn't look like a nacelle, but to me the general shape and inner rings look exactly like the front of the nacelle (or at least what we assume to be) in the teaser trailer.

Believe me, I HOPE I'm wrong ...

I have a BEAUTIFUL rendering of a TOS Enterprise entering earth orbit (by Vektor) and it looks so real, so physically *there* that for the first time I realised that the TOS E would do just fine for the big screen.

It looks good but it looks like you're using a hemi lamp (I'm assuming you're using Blender) which isn't the best lamp to use. I use a sun lamp for space stuff.

Oh, I know. I normally use the Hemi lamp until I get done modeling and texturing, then I set up my lighting rig. I like to be able to see everything. :)

I don't know...

I don't think it looks that similar at all. If we go by what we see in the trailer, It looks like maybe the domes haven't been stuck on yet, and what we see is just the exposed "vanes" inside. This new thing looks obviously concave, as well.

I'm really hoping we don't get "jet engines in space"

Yes, I meant concave... just call me stupid :D

hmmm ... yes. I can see what you mean. Hopefully I AM wrong.
I'm still sort of hoping that, cause they took the time and effort to reference the original Starfleet Uniforms (when in a prequel they could've used any old uniform) means that they realise that they can't F**k with the outside of the Enterprise.

Similarily I believe the bridge we've seen will either get the crap blown out of it and be due for replacement at the end of the movie, or it'll be a by-product of Nero screwing with the timeline, which is why it looks so advanced.

I just can't believe that they won't have found a way to make the TOS bridge look updated (ok ok, no jelly bean buttons), but look more or less the way it's supposed to be.
