USS Kelvin, Speculation, in 3D!

Yes, I think that 1 deck would be reasonable, with one deck at that raised area, one deck below the bridge, and the bridge itself. The underside has 1 extra deck, then the sensor and dome. So, 5 decks in the entire hull. I'm not counting the Pod up top, and the Nacelle or pylons, I figured they were all uninhabitable.

I think I will wait a little while before I add windows and more details, I am hoping for another pic or 3.

I noticed something else looking at the pics...

These look like TMP era phaser banks. Interesting. I guess those turrets are Torpedoes, then?

More updates soon.

This IS interesting!

While I think those streaking objects are certainly fighters, this little "port" you've discovered is something I'd never noticed. There's one just like it in the same place on the port side, and in both Kelvin photos there seems to be a red bolt of light streaking to or from this emplacement.

Its an odd place for a torpedo launcher, but still... MAYBE!

I think what I said was confusing...

I think that orange thing looks a lot like the phasers attached to the saucer on the refit enterprise, and ships of that era. I was thinking the turrets (not int his photo) might be torpedo launchers. The stuff coming out of them seems kind of puny, though.

They might be high rate of fire point defense weapons, similar to the Phalanx CIDS (Close In Defense System) used on US navy ships. Would make sense to have an "active" defense system in addition to the passive system of the screens and shields. I've had this concept in my fan fiction for years now.

Looks like Cmdr. Roaktar's post over in the related trek tech thread has rubber stamped the Kelvin layout depicted so brilliantly here. :techman: I'll be pleasantly surprised if any unseen aspect the actual film article looks as good.

Dude, sweet work.

Been following this for a while now here and there. Looks good.

Ive never been a fan of the Saladin concept, just doesnt hit me, but you have done a great thing with a not so great concept.

At the moment, this is the best guess anyone has got.

At the moment im working on a 3d version of what the captains chair may look like in full, working from the only image we have. Hope to get it up soon.

I'm looking forward to it. :)

Maybe you can build the rest of the bridge too, so I don't have to. :)

Is it just me or does the Kelvin's upper pod look off center in the lightened pic in the other thread? The hull markins don't line up with it.

I've wondered, what ship is your avatar for?

-=Madman=-

I designed that for Doug Schramm & CrimsonLine's Hybrid Enterprise over at Scifi Meshes. It's a blend of the NX-01 and the Connie. I created insignia backstory for her. She's the NX-1701 out on her shakedown cruise under command of Robert April, when the Constitution and Enterprise were the only connies.

Since I know you're a member, great pics here:

It's obvious, if you look at the photo in an "un-zoomed" size, that that patch of orange, and the black "streaks" around it is fire and weapons scorching... it's not a fighter streaking by.

That's awesome... I somehow missed development on that project! Do you know if his mesh is available for download?

Never mind, I see that he is still working on it. Looking forward to seeing the finished product, though!

I still think those orange areas are phaser "nipples" like is on the refit era ships. I swear in the the one where the Kelvin is blowing up, there is red phaser fire coming out of it, hitting one of those fighters.

We will see.

You will see... I refuse to watch this perversion of Trek... but that's another thread and argument. What I was trying to say, is that if you look at the overall shot of the Kelvin... the one where you can see the entire saucer section... it will become obvious that what that is is fire/weapons hits/damage... not small fighters.

I don't understand. I'm talking about phasers, not fighters...

I agree that those things are fighters. :)

Perversion? Isn't that a bit extreme? :)

This is what I am trying to get at. :)

I don't see any fighters at all. If they are fighters, then that ship's main hull must be bigger than a galaxy class in comparison. I would submit that if you are seeing anything it might be drones (guided missiles). The scale would work much better that way.

Drones do make a lot sense. I'm not sure where fighters came from in the conversation. :)

There is the idea that this ship is very large, though, with about 6 or 7 decks just in the saucer part alone.

I just hope someone leaks a trailer soon, so we can see thing moving around. That would answer al ot of questions.
