USS Kelvin, Speculation, in 3D!

Those great scenes of your Kelvin's rendevous with the original 1701 are a little bittersweet as the twain shall never meet on screen. Maybe we can think of the Kelvin as a crossover design between the Shat/Kirk and Pine/Kirk trekverses.

Could a shuttlebay be tucked into the back of that dorsal hull/pod?

Missles are a good guess. After studying the pics close up, those spiky green glowing "dart arrows" looked like they might be "fighters", but then noticed one, very tiny, over the edge of the saucer rim. Assuming the 1-deck edge scale of the Kelvin, that would make the missles what? 2-3 feet long? Perhaps that undefined "blob" thing to the left of the bridge, in the far image, is the ship that attacked...Also your guess about the 2 orange phaser-bump-turrets seems dead on...
BTW, forgot to say so earlier Madman, but these are great images, well thought-out/studied too.
Great work, can't wait to see more!

Sure... I just haven't gotten around to it yet. RL and all. :)

I'm just trying to figure out if I need to make the pod larger to accommodate it.

When this thing is all said and done, I plan to build a new model of the new enterprise itself. I'll have many wallpapers and renders of the two together. They may not always be friendly. :)

Thanks. :) I think I have some down time tomorrow, so I will try to do some refining, and see what can be done about the hangar. I don't want to slap a TOS style clamshell deal on there, I don't think. Maybe something closer to hatches, like on enterprise.

I'm starting to think those green things are either missiles, or unmanned drones. That makes more sense than anything I can think of, otherwise.

Quick Update...

I think that works. It's a more Movie Era kind of ShuttleBay

Awsome!.

Love the dark "loading door" details on the top pod, and the overall shape is very elegant...(I may or may not post my ugly ortho attempt at the same thing,,,:) man it's...just not working.:)
Guess I spend too much time trying to channel Ryan Church (?) or whoever is doing the art stuff, trying to figure out what the hell they are doing. After the Nu-Enterprise Conjecture thread-mess, I should probably leave it alone. :)
Your nacelle design is very nice, and I really like the "arrow" canted double pylon assy.
I also liked that you didn't over-greeble it with glued-on army tank parts and as sorts of other spare-parts-box nonsense...it has that "smooth-Jefferies" look to me.[
Can you do straight orthographic renders in blender? (I've always liked those aviation art 3-views).

One last thing; IMO you've nailed the "older generation ship" look, compared to the peak of the "E" we saw in the spoiler...

Great work!

Thanks. :) I haven't rendered orthos before, but I think it's a good time to figure out how. :)

Come on, post what you have! I think I said in my first post I wanted to see other people's interpretations also.

Dude- you made me like this ship, and I hate one nacelled designs! Good work!

A couple of detail suggestions:

* The pop-up weapon hatches to me seem slightly more widely separated in the photos, and extending closer to the bow centerline.

* There seem to be paired phaser turrets at the port and starboard 45 angle marks: dark dots on a yellowish rectangle, one-third the way from the saucer "step" to the bridge rim. (But perhaps those are retractable, too?)

* There seems to be a group of dark windows / sensor apertures / deflectors / whatever at the very bow.

* At 45 degrees port bow, there's a bright group of blue thingamabobs. Perhaps an RCS cluster, suggesting the existence of three more in the other "corners" of the saucer?

* Do I see the faint impression of a large, circular logo at the port side of the dorsal pod when I ramp up the brightness? Or just battle charring? It might be interesting to have the United Earth globe there, rather than those cool square openings...

As I said, details only. I dig this one a lot. Especially when it looks as if this could be what the Saladin class looked like "originally", before being refitted with a TOS style engine. Perhaps one of the Saladins got this extra "exploration pod" with big sensor dish plus shuttlebay, and didn't live long enough to get the refit?

Madman - Very nice job on this ship, especially given the limited views we have of her. Can't wait to see how she measures agains the real thing.:techman:
