Poll USS Discovery vs USS Enterprise, who wins?

Yeah I went there. Given these ships existed in the same era, I figured this question would come up sooner or later. Who would win if the Discovery got into a one-on-one battle with the Enterprise? There have been a couple of battle sequences shown of Discovery already. They performed well, but are they powerful enough to defeat the Enterprise in battle?

Spock is the better science officer and Kirk is a very good captain. Enterprise is also bigger. So Enterprise.

Discover only has the spore drive and Lorca and I see Kirk as more intelligent since he rig the impossiable to win simulator for him to win.

Well, the Discovery is new , the Enterprise is 12 years old. Until we see listed firepower, I am unsure, but thinking the discovery unless she is a much smaller ship.

Star Trek ships always upgrade thank to new discoveries outside known space, enterprise will be the same as being new despite the age.

Discovery barely handles the ambush it undertakes in Episode 4.

The Enterprise took on a wing of Romulan Bird of Preys for several minutes. It was routinely outnumbered in TAS and faired just fine.

From all accounts thus far. Discovery is basically a science lab in space. The Enterprise was utilized for gun boat diplomacy, showing the flag, re-conning dangerous regions of space. Not because it was expendable, but because it was both capable and ready to face those challenges.

The Enterprise easily.

The Discovery is a dedicated science vessel, meant to be a traveling research base, crewed by people with little combat experience. The Enterprise is a deep space exploration cruiser, designed to be able to deal with anything it comes across (military or scientific).

Is there any real evidence of Pike's badassery? All we really know about him is that he just got his ass handed to him at Rigel VII by a load of guys with swords.

ONLY has a spore drive?! Get Ripper plugged in and theoretically you'd have a Starship that can fight like Nightcrawler from the X Men!

Hmm, I was thinking about Kirk, he would obviously win against shady Captain Lorca. Not so sure about Pike though. But I guess he would still win, it's still an obviously heroic captain versus nefarious mad-science captain situation. These never end well for the latter.

If we are actually just talking about the ships, there really is not enough information about Discovery to make a fair assessment.

I'm leaning toward Discovery. Lorca fights ruthlessly and the ship operates at a breakneck pace in combat - not to mention the obvious advantage of the spore drive. Kirk (or Pike) and company would be aware that there was a Starfleet crew aboard Discovery "held hostage" by Lorca's command, and, Spock might know Michael is aboard (in which case, we've already seen that he would probably try to save her, based on his actions in Star Trek V). So the Enterprise would both be slower AND fighting with one hand tied behind their backs.

I'm only leaning, though, because if this is Kirk's crew, then Sulu is pretty much the best pilot in the Fleet (whereas we've heard no such claims regarding anyone on Discovery), and Spock and/or Scotty might figure out a way to shut down the way Discovery is accessing the mushroom realm and keep them from using the spore drive - at which point, Discovery may operate faster in combat, but as a dedicated science ship, she probably doesn't have sufficient shields or weapons to take on a heavy cruiser toe-to-toe.

Of course, the real answer is "the needs of plot".

Spock is good enough that he can predict where discovery will pop out using the spore drive.
