USS Discovery in TOS?

This obviously wasn't what was meant. I also do not care, because it provides an "in". A whole TrekLit novel will be written that picks up off of this, and I can't wait to read it. :D

Someday when Star Trek: Discovery moves forward to the timeframe of the 1701's five-year-mission, we can undoubtedly look forward to the episode where the ship gets a signal from the Enterprise about a mysterious planet in the middle of a region of space with no stars.. But by the time Discovery gets to the planet, the Enterprise has already taken care of everything.

Or not.

I'm fine with either "Kirk brainfarted" or "Kirk's CO at the time had flagged USS Discovery (not necessarily even NCC-1031) and Kirk was reporting to his admiral".

I don't think the phrase was referring to the USS. Discovery herself. But if the word inform was use instead of notify. Then it would been referring to the ship. Also if they have put the between notify and discovery, it would also be referring to the ship.

Maybe Kat is Kirk's admiral and he was calling the Discovery because he knew she was making another booty call for Lorca.

If we ever get to see who is commanding the USS Enterprise in DSC and it turns out not to be Jeffrey Hunter then we know for sure this ain't our TOS universe like I've been saying!

Here's as close as you're ever gonna get to the USS Discovery in The Original Series.

(and that's the Discovery as she appeared in the first teaser trailer, which is probably closer to what she's look like in the TOS version of the Trek universe)

I wasn't aware Mister Hunter had travelled to the future and joined Starfleet. His death must have been a fake out.

He didn't, but he did play the role of Captain Christopher Pike in the pilot of the show! :nyah: And I was wondering if they fail to use old footage of him in the next episode we'll get closure on the our universe or not thread!

Sarek's already been recast so if you're going by actors, it's already moot.

I'm with you. I think Discovery is in the NuTrek timeline. And if anyone tries to respond with some quote from some producer saying it's in the Prime timeline, I will engage in the time honored debate tactic of sticking my fingers in my ears and loudly stating "LA LA LA LA I CAN'T HEAR YOU."

I'll respond with a quote from Admiral Marcus in Star Trek Into Darkness, set 2259:

"The Klingons have conquered and occupied two planets that we know of and fired on our ships half a dozen times. They are coming our way."

Which is entirely incompatible with Discovery's open Klingon/Federation war in 2256/7.

So while there's no way DSC is the same world as TOS, it may look more like the Kelvin movies but it doesn't fit into that world, either. It's it's own thing.

That's true and I did think about it! But Jonathan Simpson, who played Sarek briefly in Star Trek V would have been a better choice I'd have said due to his similar features to that of Mark Lenard, but he's not a high profile actor and who knows what he looks like today anyway!
