It's up to the viewers! After all that's who they are supposed to be making the show for isn't it? No viewers, no show!
JB
Exactly, JB. It's like the DISC team feels they can just spew out anything with impunity, take a whiz on TOS, and the viewers will just lap it up. And because no one has yet devised or had the will or power to implement a Nielsen-like system to measure viewership on streaming services, we don't know if they're right or not. I have always believed that this is why DISC was smuggled on to CBS All-Access (an ironic name) - TPTB wanted a layer of insulation from the fan base.
I don't really care if any of the Trek spinoffs are supposed to be in continuity with TOS or not.
I may enjoy them to varying degrees (or not), but to me, they are just different "versions" of Star Trek, whereas TOS is its own self-contained, standalone thing as true Star Trek. So none of the spinoffs affect the way I view and understand TOS itself and the events depicted therein.

Yes, fully agreed. I went into DISC with an open mind, but by about 10 minutes into the premiere (the title of which also indicated immediate issues, incidentally), it was clear that the only way I could enjoy it was to divorce it from any other Star Trek series, including particularly TOS. Standing alone in that way, it was a decent show until about episode 10, maybe 11. Then it just went off the rails completely as any kind of show. Disappointing in the extreme.
In any case, like you, no amount of Abrams movies or blithely unaware "prequels" is going to diminish my enjoyment of Star Trek: The Original Series, which is a timeless masterwork. And hey, maybe someday the folks at CBS will dope out that they could try the crazy, bats***, just UTTERLY BIZARRE idea of - stay with me here - setting a TV series *after* Voyager and Nemesis.
