USS Aventine

Not to worry I'm sure plenty of other people feel the same. Win some / lose some I guess... Anyways Mark's update can be found here. http://mark-rademaker.blogspot.com/2009/01/aventine-small-update.html

I'm sure you'll all have plenty of nice stuff to say about his design so feel free to drop him a comment, I'm sure he'd appreciate the feedback.

Take it from me you can't please everyone when it comes to designing a starship. I kinda like your design myself. Keep at it maybe as a different class of starship.

You know, folks, there's a difference between saying, "I don't like the design" or "I don't like the design because X" and saying, "UGH! It's UGLY! It's terrible! Blah blah blah." One is a perfectly reasonable reaction, and one tends to come across like an attack upon the artist.

I agree. But some folks here need a reminding from titme to time on how
to crit a fellows work.

hey, i never criticised the artist, only the art. it's not like i said he smelt of wee and his mom left her knickers at my house.

See, here's the thing. If you had said, "I don't like it because I feel that it looks too much like the White Star from Babylon 5," that would have been a perfectly appropriate critique.

Instead, you went:

yeah, that's a USS White Star. BLEH!

Your wording implied that the creator made no substantive effort at originality -- notice how you say it is the White Star rather than saying it is too similar to the White Star for your tastes. And then you engage in a very rude display of contempt for the artist's efforts by going, "BLEH!" At no point in your critique did you word anything in such a way as to acknowledge that yours is a subjective opinion; you worded your criticism as one would an objective rather than subjective evaluation.

In my opinion, it was an incredibly immature and disrespectful criticism.

well, it's my opinion and i'm sticking with it. and unless a mod makes me, i don't apologise for it.

You have every right to your opinion of the guy's work, but you could have shown a lot more respect for the guy in your critique.

Ohh.. I have the power to make people do things! This could get dangerous.

Anyway, I do feel it probably could have been delivered with more tact, but I don't see anything here that would require moderator action.

calamity_si: were your sketches inspired by the White Star ship from Babylon 5? Looks very similar IMO..

..liked that design alot (I also liked the "final" design of the Aventine that was posted on www.trekmovie.com)
Huh, the official concept art looks like a bit of a mash up between a Dauntless and a Sovereign.

I just want to say that I never said the design was bad, or anything, I just like the other one better.

If I were to rise to that first comment u made I could see this conversation degenerating quite quickly so in the interest of keeping the peace, I'll just say a polite 'thank you' and leave it at that.

Yeah that was a little rude of me. No matter, you drew a cool ship. Just a little fat. Put it on a diet!:techman:

Well the passage did say they were experimental, although it didn't say if th actual tech was experimental, or the deployment of it on the Vesta Class or just even the Aventine.

Atleast it's not a Vista Class ship, since that would sound too much like a certain Microsoft Operating System :)

Starfleet R&D still hasn't released stable warp core drivers. And the holodecks are laced with ridiculous DRM.

Any progress? I'm dying to see a better resolution.

"The Resolution of the Vista class ship is currently set to low, click the yellow bar to allow high resolution images."

"click"

"You need to upgrade to LCars Vista to view this image, contact your
local vendor or visit....."

Ok to be serious: I'm currently working on the armor plating. It's a painstaking process, when it's done I'm sure another preview will come to Trekmovie or so. :)

*I suck at typing today
