Using Deepfake in Trek... Yes or no?

Hamill didn't record the lines of dialog for the Mandalorian or TBOBF. Young Luke's voice that we heard in these shows was 100% synthesized based on AI analysis of audio from past recordings of Hamill's voice (Source). And the final product is quite bland and lacking in nuance and inflection... especially in BOBF as Luke had much more dialog than the few lines in his brief appearance in the Mando show. This audio technology is still quite a ways off from producing really convincing, warm, natural and emotive vocal delivery.

Kor
Definitely picked up on that after rewatching the last episode of Mandalorian Season 2.

The biggest problem with Solo was that it tried to mash every bit of Han Solo lore into one movie.

How he got started
How he met Chewie
How he got the Falcon
How he knew Lando
How he made the Kessel Run

As a result, none of these things were handled particularly well story-wise. The Kessel Run stuff was particularly cringey-bad.
I never understood the complaints around this film. It took those points and actually made it kind of interesting. I enjoy the hell out of Solo.

It wasn't nearly as terrible a movie as some people try to make it out. They just needed to take one or two of the above elements and craft a cohesive story around it- it would have left room for more movies, too!

*shrugs*

I found it coherent enough. I thought it was actually quite good in how it wove different elements in throughout, implying a larger backstory without delving in to all the details.

I didn’t think it was terrible, just extremely forgettable. The things that stood out more for me were the activist Android (and I knew from early on where he would up), how dark most scenes were and how badly cast the protagonist was.

Strangely I find it more memorable than Rogue One. Especially the villain.

IMO, Rogue One was the best of Disney SW so far, by quite a stretch. There are a couple of really good fan edits out there as well that re-order some of the early first-act scenes to tighten up the coherency.

Mileage will vary, at least for me. Rogue One is probably 3rd or 4th in the Disney rankings, if I were to do so. The characters don't grab me quite as well, the first act is a mess, but the production design and ships are nice additions.

I find Rogue One the unnecessary backstory to A New Hope, which is unfortunate because I wouldn't mind seeing more of the Rebellion coming together and how the Empire was so evil. But, well, it didn't work so well, until the third act, which doesn't incline me to rewatch.

i dont remember who the villain in solo was _at all_.
I enjoyed Rogue One a lot at the theater but I found it less interesting during my rewatch a couple of years later.
Dryden Voss. Such a great crime lord, played by the always enjoyable Paul Bettany.

You know, if they were to seriously consider using Deepfake technology, my answer would be: why not just an animated series using the sort of style we saw in productions like Lucky 13 in Love, Death, and Robots, or Final Fantasy? (FF was a lot of years ago and the animation tech has improved greatly since then).

Then, the original actors could provide voiceovers, but apparently even that can be faked with reasonable accuracy these days.

Animation is still seen as something “for children” by many, with the result of it being less profitable than live action.
