Because that makes too much sense and is too nuanced for Trump and doesn't allow him to waste exorbitant amounts of money on an unnecessary boondoggle that will create a space based arms race if it ever comes to fruition instead of just being another one of his pointless juvenile grand schemes like the Wall?
Because this was meant to be a distraction from the release of the video of our child concentration camps. I highly doubt it will even happen.

I think so too... given the new push toward space exploration and tax dollars given back to NASA, it may be good to combine it with proposed military branch... somewhat. My father and grandfather were both employed there (Maryland) in the 50s-60's, so building and expanding on that aspect--going father, learning more, making new discoveries--IMO, is a good thing.
Wouldn't battles in space created debris that would be a major hazard to space stations, satellites and any other craft? Possibly so much so that at some point future space launches become impossible?

It may happen, but I doubt it. It will be very expensive, and it took years to work out the unification of the armed forces after WW2, including splitting the Air Force off from the Army. And that was with a motivated Congress that was used to getting things done.
It is true is that something like space defense shouldn't be run by one service, which tends to end up biased toward its own specific requirements. What would make more sense, I think, would simply be to resurrect the old US Space Command, a joint-service combatant command with its own four-star boss, a deputy from a different service and a joint staff. As was recently done with Cyber Command. As Mr Laser Beam said, we need to reduce duplication and overlap in the existing services, not create whole new services.

We still have an Air Force that is supposed to provide heavy air support for the Army, which involves a separate and redundant Air Force structure at the Army division and corps level. Then we have the Army responsible for surface-to-air defense, while the Air Force handles air-to-air defense... against the same enemy aircraft. With the Marines and Navy having their own parallels, of course. And the Marines, the Marines... they have their own (big) air wings hand-in-glove with every division, each with its own transport, tanker and recon aircraft as well as fighting planes and helicopters. And they have their own (Navy) ships to get them where they need to go, too. Come to think of it, a scaled-up USMC might not be bad as a model for a unified service.

Space debris could increase to the point that it results in a runaway Kessler Syndrome, where there is a chain reaction of collisions causing yet more collisions and so on. At present, one satellite is rendered inoperative per year on average due to a collision with space debris. The ISS has recently lauched a satellite to experiment with techniques for deorbitting objects.

Space based radar has been looked at--but it always plays second fiddle to the wants of the fighter mafia. So moving space away from the USAF makes sense--in that space advocates are no longer under the thumb of other peoples wish lists.
The large dish for space based radar--like the Kennan-derived Hubble--can also be useful for radio telescope dishes or other large structures.

(Am I joking? Am I serious? Even I'm not sure on this one. I do know that the Air Force has several space-faring craft that aren't given much press and that the details of which are kept pretty secret.)

Erm, smiley, winky emoticon. I wasn't being serious. If the USAF has secret craft, why does it need the X-37? Also it seems like a tremendous waste of money to develop the SLS and the Orion spacecraft in parallel to the black ops programs.
