UP UP and AWAY

I Just watched UP last night with my wife and kids, and you know what? I liked it. I am putting it in this forum because it has to be a scifi/fantasy film. I mean, 80 year dude pulling a house arond kept in the air by balloon isn't quite..well..realistc..

But I loved it. It had a touching story that really, at time, had me wondering what the hell was going on. It was that unpredictable part of the story that I liked..

I don't care much for Ed Asner's politcal views (he is somewhere left of Michael Moore) but his voice was perfect as was Trek's very on Christopher Plummer. I wont ruin the story but it is a bit serious in nature in terms of death and issues like that...but it is very enjoyable. I loved DOUG the dog and KEVIN the bird..who are they you ask? Just see the movie and you'll find out..

Our combined score for this movie was a strong B+

This movie had me in tears within 10 minutes. That opening was some powerful stuff. That said, I do think the movie loses a little focus in the third act, but it still ends up being a fantastic movie.

In the end, I wouldn't rate it among Pixar's best (For me: Toy Story 2, The Incredibles, and WALL-E), but easily in this years Top 10. I think A-, B+ is a very fair assessment of the film

I LOVED "Up. The first 20 minutes were fantastic, and there wasn't a dry eye in the house. It is slightly more grown up in its themes and perhaps a bit scary for the tiny ones, but I'd put it right up there in the top 5 of all Pixar's works.

Every time I think of this movie, it makes me smile. I'd give it an A-.

Oh I agree....Jed/Bill/Mike were not as high on it as I was..i gave it 10s across the board..with those three hovering in the eights and nines....

I think PIXAR is the most consistantly good movie making company; ever!

I just saw "UP" on the weekend as well, and I really liked it. The animation was fantastic, and the story was quite touching in spots. Ed Asner was great as the old man, and Doug the dog was-- SQUIRREL!! --....and Doug the dog was a hoot.

agreed...I love PLUMMER but his character looked SO MUCH like Kirk Douglass..i wonder if thats who they originally wanted...

Haven't watched Up yet but did get the Blu-ray and from what I've seen, it looks excellent.

Speaking of Up, found a great video where the dialogue from the Gran Torino trailer is almost seemlessly inserted into Up. Be warned though...the video has a ton of spoilers for Up in case you haven't seen it.

I thought from the thread title that this was about the teen superhero made for TV flick Disney made in the same vein as 'Sky High' (for the record decent, though I would have given the poor kid at least a Doug Ramsey-ish power).

As for UP!--a solid A. Much as it pulled my heart-strings, the first ten minutes was unbelievably powerful. Young Ellie seemed straight out of anime, what some call a 'Genki Girl'. The one and only quibble I had, while explainable, was the age of the antagonist, who had been the boyhood hero of the young couple.

In short, I felt 'UP!' after seeing it.

Then again? UP was, IMO, far better than Superman Returns..so maybe it has inherited the UP UP and AWAY phrase until Warner Bros can do for SUPERMAN what JJ did for STAR TREK..make...it....HIP!

But yeah...i do get the sentiment here...but a thread called UP? I might have attracted the UP WITH PEOPLE crowd..LOL
