Unrealized Stories From Throwaway Lines

When Tom Riker shows up on DS9 it is mentioned in dialogue that he had, while serving on the Gandhi expressed dismay at what was happening in the DMZ.
So do Federation starships have political officers?

Since the Borg Queen was mentioned...

Why did she mean when she says, 'See you soon, Harry"? Even Harry was confused by that one, and rightly so.
Captain Harry Kim can be in the Seven of Nine spin-off to help explain. Does anybody know if he is still acting? He can fly another ship which meets up with Seven’s as a recurring character. Hopefully he still doesn’t have a crush on her… hehe :bolian:

We don't know exactly where that colony was located in relation to unexplored regions. It could be close to uncharted space.

It's also possible the Husnock ship was a long range scout. We will never know, but I wish we did.

The bigger question is also this... when he killed the Husnock, did he eliminate all traces of them, or are there empty cities and ships and stations out there?
Always liked this episode - really sold me on TNG at the time.

It always bothered me how the Vidiians being cured of the Phage was just a throwaway line on Think Tank. We should have gotten to see some healthy Vidiians, maybe reunite with Denara Pel. Yeah it might not have made much sense to see them in the later half of Voyager, but we did get to see the Hierarchy, the Hirogen, and even Talaxians far beyond their territories, so why not the Vidiians?

Maybe there was (however briefly) a plan to actually do something meaningful with Harry's character, quickly obliterated by Rick Berman.

He did "Delta Flyers" alongside Robert Duncan Macneil. I was actually surprised LD hadn't grabbed him for some voice work as well.

My theory was that they knew that half the fanbase took a sadistic pleasure in him being an ensign forever, while the other half were steamed about him never getting promoted. Since they didn't want to piss off either side, they simply never mentioned Harry's fate at all.

The Equinox and the Krowtonan Guard. I keep thinking they're the bad guys of "Galaxy Quest," old lobster head himself. The Equinox's trip after it leaves the Caretaker's array was strange to me. How was their route different than Voyager's that either ship didn't run into the others enemies? Wouldn't you just point your ship at the Federation and engage? And the two ships run into each other on the same route later on. Maybe Voyager took the scenic route and Equinox took the direct route.

"We'll take the shortest route home, no deviations, unless absolutely necessary for provisions or repairs. Well, and to explore a little and investigate potential shortcuts home. And to get involved in local rebellions or civil wars we really don't have any in-depth knowledge about. And annoy some local bully alien power for no good reason except that I don't like them. Or to participate in some local racing event or some such thing. But other than that, absolutely no deviations!"

Your "theory" is inaccurate. It fails to take into account the large number of people who didn't give a shit about Harry Kim one way or the other.

"Sadistic pleasure"? Like people gave him that much thought....

This might be more like throwaway premise, but in-universe you have what was going on with the Romulans in Season 1 of TNG. Nobody has heard of them in fifty years in "The Neutral Zone" but a few episodes earlier in "Angel One" they were threatening Federation outposts. I hadn't realised they were mentioned in "Angel One" until recently and was confused, and you could probably think of some way to reconcile it with the later episode if you want. But even more recently I read that in "Angel One" it was meant to be the Ferengi threatening the outposts, and they probably just did a find and replace in the script. "The Neutral Zone" was in draft story outline before "Angel One" went to second draft so the writers probably didn't realise the error or it's not the first time they'd retcon something. It was just strange because I felt Season 1 does have some pretty good continuity, like with Q, all the callbacks in "Coming of Age", and even "Conspiracy"

That is a big story in itself... what were the Romulans doing in that half century? What urgent matters made them disappear for so long?

I might have the timeline off but weren't they beefing with the Klingons (leading to the C taking one for the team) for a while and then after that when the Klingons and Fed got on good terms then they though "let's chill here and see what happens" as they couldn't take on both fronts?

True, they attacked the Narendra 3 outpost and Khitomer. But they were absent from the Federation for over 50 years. The Klingons may have been allies, particularly after Narendra 3, but they didn't need to tell us everything.

In any event, we still don't know overall what they were up to.

No, it allows for them as well. The Eternal Ensign crowd don't want to see him promoted. Right now, they can look up Harry on Memory Alpha and verify that his official rank is still Ensign. Having him promoted in canon would ruin that. The Harry Deserved Promoting crowd can point out Star Trek Online and other non-canon sources that show him ranking up. Having him stuck at ensign in canon would overwrite that, dashing their hopes. And the crowd you mentioned have no interest in seeing him period, so not having Harry return at all will work for them, too.
