Universe Characters Revealed?

^^The actors need not be the actual age of the characters. It will all depend on who gets cast. If an actors looks younger than their age, and tptb like them, they'll win the role.

Also, why would the military send a bunch of kids on any important mission?

They're expendable?

that would be cool if the first team they sent were all killed, so this team is actually meant as a rescue mission, but they end up finding everyone dead cause of something, and then are stranded

That sounds Voyager-ish like the first episode. The Destiny gets ready to embark but suddenly loses its original captain and flagship team(who are generic people)

its up to Everett and a new crew to handle things...........in the delta quadrant!! or just far away parts in space:)

Well, the casting sheet doesn't appear to be a fake out. SGA producer Joe Mallozzi comments on the... robust discussion taking place of the character breakdowns at his blog.
Speaking of SGU, I notice that much of the reaction to the character breakdowns has been negative. While I respect everyone’s right to express their opinions, I’d suggest holding off on making a final decision on the show until you’ve actually seen it. Last week, Brad pitched us the series and its first five episodes and, I have to say, it’s a far cry from the shallow confection many fans are imagining. In fact, in many ways, it’s a much more cerebral and mature addition to the franchise. While firmly entrenched in pre-established Stargate mythology, Stargate Universe definitely strikes out in an exciting new direction. It’s a series that will delight veteran fans, but also appeal to newcomers who may not necessarily know the difference between an Alteran and an Asuran. In spite of what the indicators may suggest, this will definitely not be a Voyager 90210. The assortment of characters that make up the character breakdown are certainly an atypical collection of heroes, far-removed from the skilled likes of Jack O’Neill, Samantha Carter, John Sheppard, and Rodney McKay - but there’s a damn good reason for that. Can’t say more but suffice it to say I have a feeling this show will pleasantly surprise a lot of people.

And sigh, SGA wrapped filming Wednesday (the 17th). :(

Thank you, it's funny with all the 90210 talk people kind forgot how much older the actors were on that show then their characters.

Who cares? They're looking for 20-25 year old characters, that's the bottom line. The characters sound juvenile and terrible. How you can defend this is beyond me.

You better include several Canadians on that list since the show is filmed in Canada by law it needs to have a number of Canadians working on the show.
Which further lowers the odds of them being any good.

They're expendable?

You have a rather nasty view of military personnel, that they're cannon fodder. You've probably picked that up from old WWII films or something. In reality, military personnel today are highly - and expensively - trained. Nobody can afford to consider them cannon fodder. They're more like million-dollar pieces of high-tech machinery, if you want to compare them to objects.

And anyone on a Stargate mission would be even more of an expensively trained superstar, and even less expendable. Plus the more people you train and get killed off, the more new recruits you need. Sooner or later someone will talk.

No, the better approach is to get people with the common sense and maturity not to get killed in the first place.

The actors need not be the actual age of the characters.
If they have to cast a 30 year old in the role to get anyone good, why not just make the character 30 years old then? It would lessen the disconnect when the actor doesn't look as young as they're supposed to be. How is it going to attract a young demo to have someone who looks 30 pretend to be 20? are they going to walk around announcing "hey I'm TWENTY years old, did you know that? It's great to be TWENTY years old." So we'll get the message despite the fact that we're looking at someone who is obviously 30?

"Skilled"?!?! The Atlantis crew are a pack of major fuck-ups! Now they're getting people even less competent? What is this going to be, slapstick comedy?

It's definite: this one's gonna be a train wreck.

I can't wait to again play the "spot that canadian actor from other shows we watch game"

On Thursday I saw this actor on Smallville and on Friday Battlestar Galactica.

If they're going for slapstick we should have Moe, Larry and Curly

With regard to the ongoing discussion on the forthcoming Stargate: Universe - At the end of the day, it is, of course, up to you whether you give the show a chance or not but I feel the need to point out that, at present, those characters are simply names on a page and a long way from being fully realized. It’s easy to imagine the worst case scenario. As for the relative value of my opinion - well, that’s also something for you to decide on. However given the fact that I’ve been privy to details beyond the official casting breakdown and public statements made, I am speaking from a informed position. I’ve always followed the maxim “If you can’t say something nice about someone, don’t say anything at all.” so you can be damn sure that if I didn’t think SGU had potential, you wouldn’t be reading my opinions on the subject.

I've been enjoying the hell out of Major Davis on The Collector as Satan, but after his amazing job on JPOD can you imagine how often people ask him for hugs at conventions or were the ratings truly reflective on how minuscule their viewership really was.

They are all 20?! (Besides the "big name")

Well if Atlantis lasted 5, SG-1 10 then this show should be half of Atlantis so 2.5 seasons?

I wouldn't be surprised if that happens. It would make the most sense from an in-universe point of view. It is very doubtful that that military would send youngins on a mission like this on their own. It would make for interesting character arcs for the first season. All of a sudden freshly graduated officers have to take leadership positions they were not ready or prepared for.

SG-1 lasted 5 years on Sci-Fi, just as long as Atlantis did. If Universe maintains the same level of viewer-ship as the two previous shows, I suspect it'll have a 5 year run baring any unforeseen events.

SCI FI need all the viewers they can get so the show will get at least 4 no matter what plus worldwide audience will make MGM make sure SG U stays around for 4-5 too.

Still would prefer another few years of Atlantis. Last night's episode make me very pissed off about it's cancellation.
