Universe Characters Revealed?

Etched

Rear Admiral
Rear Admiral
Gateworld have posted up the main character rundowns for the SGU casting call. These things always make the characters sound like awful clichés but there is some really cringeworthy sounding stuff in here. Having said that this doesn't come from an official source so could it could be all nonsense.

Is this our new team?

Colonel Everett Young
40's handsome, capable, former SG team leader. Like the Jack O'Neill of ten years ago, but Young's edges have tended to sharpen over time. He requested permission to serve the remainder of his commission on Earth upon marrying his wife, Hailey, two years ago, but for now he's temporary commander of a secret off world base. The loss of two members of his team several years ago has taught him never to take anything for granted, and be prepared for anything. He stays on top of his team so they stay alive. STAR NAMES ONLY. SERIES REGULAR;

Tamara Jon
20-25, all ethnicities (Asian Preferably). SGC Field medic, Captain grade. Off world experience. Beautiful, tough, smart, capable. Paramedic level training. Able to triage serious injury. Modest background. Dreamed of being a doctor but couldn't afford medical school and the Air Force was her best option. She ends up being the most medically inclined person on the ship but is overwhelmed by the lack of knowledge and experience treating seriously wounded and ill patients. She also lacks the medicine and supplies and has to make do. SERIES REGULAR;

Chloe Carpenter
20ish. Stunning and sexy. Daughter of a U.S. Senator. Silver spoon upbringing and a little spoiled but not stupid either. Politically and socially savvy. Dreams of following in her father's footsteps but for now she's a bit of a party girl in her first year at an Ivy League school. Her father's tragic death and the dire circumstances of being trapped on a spaceship seriously tests her character. SERIES REGULAR;

Eli Hitchcock
20-25. Total slacker. Utter genius. Mathematics, computers, anything he puts his mind to. Acerbic sense of humor. A social outcast. Comes from a broken home. Lacks confidence because his true intelligence has never really been recognized like Matt Damon's character from Good Will Hunting with a little Jack Black thrown in sptv050769. SERIES REGULAR;

Lt. Jared Nash
20-25. Junior S.G.C. team member. Officer material but green and rough around the edges. Every teenage girl's fantasy. Like a college quarterback thrown into his first pro game, he is thrust into the role of leader well before he's ready for the responsibility and must learn to take command, earn respect through action, and manage the diverse personalities on the ship to keep everyone alive. Like Jason Bourne, he is skilled and well-trained however he is mentally unprepared for the urgency of the situation. SERIES REGULAR;

Ron "Psycho" Stasiak
20, all ethnicities. Marine. Big, strong, silent. You want him on your side. You don't want him mad at you. Lacks control over his temper in non combat situations. His past is a mystery but it's clear something dark formed the hard shell around him. Yet, there must also be some moral center because otherwise he'd kill everyone around him. Think Eric Bana's character "Hoot" in Blackhawk Down. SERIES REGULAR.

Here's my assessment on these characters:

Colonel Everett Young: This guy sounds promising. He seems like a pretty serious guy, compared to the jovial natures of previous Stargate leads like Jack O'Neill, John Sheppard and Cameron Mitchell. Not that there's anything wrong with those characters, but it is nice to see they're giving us something different for a lead. Ironic that the oldest character in this cast has the name Young.

Tamara Jon: Makes no impression on me whatsoever at this point.

Chloe Carpenter: Why is she even here? There's nothing in that description to suggest she's in the military. How the hell did she get involved with the SGC and end up on an off-world mission?

Eli Hitchcock: This character's been done. His name is Rodney McKay. The only differance is this guy's younger.

Lt. Jared Nash: This guy leaves no impression on me either.

Ron "Psycho" Stasiak: This guy just sounds like a human version of Teal'c or Ronon.

Shit, this is looking to be a little young for my tastes. And the leader is just another permutation of Jack O'niell. We'll see who they end up casting...

Ugh, hate the names, hope-if this is a legit list, that they seriously reconsider them. And why only 2 roles carrying the 'all ethnicities' tag? Why can't all the roles be open to all ethnicities, and cast whoever's best suited/liked/most chemistry with the others?

As for a casting wishlist....

Colonel Everett Young: Boris Kodjoe

Tamara Jon: Linda Park

Chloe Carpenter: Kristen Bell

Eli Hitchcock: Jason Dohring

Lt. Jared Nash: Nicholas Gonzalez

Ron "Psycho" Stasiak: Ian Somerhalder

And here I thought those girls from last week were going to get the space ship.

"preferably asian?"

Lind Park or Grace Park?

##Shudder##

So contrived.

Sounds like utter shite, as expected. SGU will be the final nail in the coffin for SG, after lasting (at the MOST) two seasons.

Complete lack of guts, maturity, imagination or variety with those character descriptions.

Who the **** came up with those names? Everett? Tamara Jon? Chloe Carpenter??? Eli Hitchcock? Psycho?? Dear god. Sounds like a wing commander game from 10 years ago.

What a joke the Stargate TPTB are. I remember when the show used to take itself seriously back in the good old days. Sigh

They cancelled SGA for this? Pathetic.

Nothing really there to get excited about! Can't we just have another season of Atlantis.

Gugh, those descriptions sound like a fanboy wrote em. Still why not take the bait? Here are my picks for the roles (keying off some of the ideas above that I liked, in some cases just going off looks along):

Colonel Everett Young: Lou Diamond Phillips

Chloe Carpenter: Sprague Grayden

Eli Hitchcock: Jason Dohring

Ron "Psycho" Stasiak: Chris Carmack

The character ages are far too young for me to find really interesting actors for the roles. Bump them up a decade or two and it would be easy.

This sounds pretty terrible, but I'm still going to give the pilot and a couple of episodes a shot.

Hopefully they'll be hiring a couple of new writers. I'd hate for this show to become a clone of the other two shows.

Colonel Everett Young: Goran Visnjic (not quite 40's, but he's a fan of SG1 from what I remember, and can have a commanding presence).

Colonel Young (I love the unconventional first name, same with Cameron Mitchell) sounds like the most appealing character, and he's still cliched as heck. Not that I was expecting anything different from the Stargate people.
