A movie I really wanted to be good was THE KEEP.
That was the best way to introduce an ancient vampire
Have you read the original novel by F. Paul Wilson? Much better than the movie, or so I recall.

Possibly, but I have a feeling the other movies will a lot less apocalyptic. I guess it's possible with some twisting of their characters, but I don't see characters like the Wolfman or The Creature from the Black Lagoon being able to take stuff to this level.
I wonder if they mean that literally, I would think they'd know that there were some old mummy movies around. If nothing else, this definitely looks like the spiritual successor to the Fraser movies than it does the mummy movies of old. This movie sure brings out the idiots who think the Brendan Fraser movies were the "original."

Meanwhile, am I the only one who's totally creeped out by that shot of her irises splitting in two? Seriously, I can barely stand to look at that.
On the one hand, it's true that this does seem to owe more to the action-packed Fraser movies than the more low-key Universal and Hammer mummy films. On the other hand, yes, sadly, there are tons of people who assume that no pop culture ever existed before the earliest works they're personally familiar with. In my experience, for example, a lot of people seem to think Flash Gordon originated with the 1980 movie. And then there were all those people who ragged on Jerry Goldsmith for "stealing the TNG theme" for Star Trek V.
Anyway, I noticed that the Mummy's character name is Ahmanet, which is a variant spelling of the name Amonet, an Egyptian goddess who was the consort of Amon. In Stargate SG-1, Amaunet was the name of the Goa'uld who possessed Daniel Jackson's wife and was married to the archvillain Apophis.

Me too, anything to do with eyes freaks me out. I still have trouble with the needle going into Picard's eye every time I watch First Contact.Nope, not just you. Totally creepy. I can barely stand to look at a goat's eyes, which are somewhat similar.

I was looking at the Creature from the Black Lagoon on Wikipedia the other day, and I was shocked to see it only had two sequels and no remakes. I would have expected a monster that iconic to have gotten more movies, although he did make some smaller appearances in other movies and on TV.
I actually had to live through that when I was in high school and developed a retinal melanoma. I had needles stuck behind my eye a lot, and it wasn't fun, but I kinda got used to it. But my father was totally squicked out by it and couldn't stand to watch. In a weird way, it's a bit easier when it's being done to your own eye, because then you don't have to see it. Still hurts, though.

Never mind that the 1980 movie was a remake of the classic 1954 movie with Vincent Price . . ...
