"Unexpected"

I am on my first ever viewing of ENT and will be watching Season 1, Ep 7 tonight The Andorian Incident. I have enjoyed it for the most part so far, but I had to comment on this episode Unexpected. It has got to be the worst of the season and possible the series. What writer said it would be great to make Trip pregnant so we can have lots of lame jokes?

I have enjoyed it for the most part so far, but I had to comment on this episode Unexpected. It has got to be the worst of the season and possible the series.

Um..."Unexpected" is Episode 4 out of 26 in Season 1, and 98 out of the entire series. You might consider holding off calling it the worst of the lot until you've sampled the whole shebang...

You should wait until you see the first half of season 2 before you declare the worst episode. I am going to give you a warning now that I wish I had been given; skip Precious Cargo. I warned you, if you choose to go against my advise then I will not be held responsible.

My OP may come off negative, but I really do like ENT and the crew so far. I just wondered if Unexpected was viewed as one of the worst eps in the series or is my reaction unusual? I want to see every ENT episode, the good, the bad, and the craptastic!

Once I get past the ooky "Trip gets violated and impregnated against his will and without his knowledge" aspect of the plot and accept that it's supposed to be played for laughs, I quite enjoy Unexpected. The comic timing of the actors (Trineer, Bakula, and Blalock) is right on the money, and it's a really good You aren't in Kansas anymore, guys, type of story. I think the whole 6 hour decompression thing is pretty inspired. While there are aspects of the script I could do without, I appreciate the fact that the writers for once came up with very alien aliens.

Precious Cargo IS getting a lot of hype!

Every show has their stinkers along with great ones.

"Unexpected" was okay except for the inappropriate use of CGI model to represent the Klingon ship.

I didn't think "Precious Cargo" was all that bad, either, but maybe I am just so hot for Padma Lakshmi that I can't see straight on that one.

As for me, I have found something to like about every episode, and I love the series as a whole. Regarding "Unexpected," I agree with what bluedana said upthread about the gang and their flair for comedy. I especially liked all the time devoted to Trip's Very Strange Adventure aboard the alien vessel.

(By the way, BL, if you'd rather not be spoiled by specifics about eps you haven't seen yet, you'd better sing out now. Folks around here tend to go into great detail about their likes and not-likes.)

While there are aspects of the script I could do without, I appreciate the fact that the writers for once came up with very alien aliens.

Yeah! That's one of the reasons I like Unexpected.

Only thing I disliked about unexpected was the Klingons. There was absolutely NO NEED to have them in the Episode. done purely for some Archer heroics.

Yea but they dropped the ball. Braga was good at getting ideas but not developing them. He left the hard stuff to other people. Trip should have had the baby and been forced to hand it over to the Xyrellians - xytherians, whatever they were called. The baby would have paved the way to an eventual relationship with them as an ambassador possibly appearing later as they should have been higher life form aliens only appearing Human and faking the engine trouble aboard their ship. The impregnated Klingon should have killed himself.

You throw that word around out of any real context and it weakens the word...which stands for something awful, painful and humiliating.

Trip getting raped. T'Pol sexuallly molesting the Ferengi. It seems that most every thread you post in you see the worst and then magnify it beyond belief. Did you watch this series or are you getting your information from the Enterprise bashers over on the official ST website? All of us have episodes we don't like and things about the show we don't like, but you seem to be really fanatic about it. Why? And if you hate Enterprise so much, why waste your time talking about it? Wouldn't life be more enjoyable if you focused on things you like and enjoy?
