Unexpected/unwanted pregnancies: what should guys' responsibility be?

Re: Unexpected/unwanted pregnancies: what should guys' responsibility

Can't say I see it that way. Let's just call it even and move on.
How patriarchal and sexist to assume you can tell women what they can and can't do with their bodies.

How narrowminded and bigoted for you (and others here) to insist that I be willing to have my genetic legacy held hostage to the whims of a female.

When women can become pregnant without sperm then they should have complete control of their bodies.

Not before.

Deal with it.

Presuming to tell women what to do with their bodies like they are chattel or brood mares, and you claim to be a victim of narrow minds? Acknowledging the freedom of women to be in command and control of their lives is not narrow minded, or bigoted, unlike the opinions you espouse, which have been nothing but the bleating of sexism and misogyny and a wholly neanderthal sense of privilege to control women's lives.

Re: Unexpected/unwanted pregnancies: what should guys' responsibility

I think some people missed the forest for the trees, because I was mainly discussing explaining the how of it. But the general intent should have been obvious.
People objected to the highly objectionable part of your post, which equated abortion with murder, which I find not only disingenous, but also insulting.

The rest, the "general intent" of your post, was just some vague sentiment without any real meaning. You say you are "willing" to adopt a disabled child? Then do it. Don't just talk about it. Otherwise, it's just pissing in the wind, empty words without any consequence.

Really?

You advocate hundreds of thousands more children, and suggest that individual good will shall provide for them. Since that good will is wholly incapable of caring for the children we already have, and since the people advocating your position are the most likely to argue against taking care of our children, your position seems completely unreasonable.

Or what is known as the policy of "Having your cake and eating it too".

Re: Unexpected/unwanted pregnancies: what should guys' responsibility

I can't be bother to read all of this thread but if it gets me out of child support for a brat I don't want, my position is kill early, kill often.

If any woman unlucky enough and mad enough wants to keep it, then I'd just have to cough up because the decision has to rest with her and not me.

Re: Unexpected/unwanted pregnancies: what should guys' responsibility

There aren't enough willing couples for the children that are up for adoption now...how the hell are we going to find families for hundreds of thousands of more children? The math just doesn't add up, and that's being kind.

We could let gay couples adopt...but no, that'd go against KT's strict Christian morals about letting wicked sexual degenerates raise children. Heaven forbid they learn how to color-coordinate, cook or appreciate an Elton John or Barbara Streisand record. The horror.

So what are the options, I ask you? What are we going to do with hundreds of thousands of additional children in the system? KT doesn't want same-sex couples to adopt, and there aren't enough heterosexual couples who want to adopt the current crop of kids who need and deserve stable homes. I just don't see a plausible answer unless a lot of people on the family values/Christian right have a miraculous change of heart and mind about expanding the pool of those who can adopt. Good luck with that.

Re: Unexpected/unwanted pregnancies: what should guys' responsibility

In regard to the question posed earlier in the thread--it should have been obvious how I feel about how children should be treated once they are born: they should be cared for.

Surely you realize that pretty much everyone wants children to be cared for?

Workhouses, just turn orphanages into those. The orphanages will be able to pay for themselves, and we can expand the manufacturing base, and the kids learn a trade.

Re: Unexpected/unwanted pregnancies: what should guys' responsibility

I have a modest proposal.

Sadly? I could see some of the more Dickensian righties in our culture thinking that's a good and positive idea. Make those shiftless, lazy brats work for their gruel. No free lunches! This is America, dammit! Annie's hair was red because she was an uppity communist!

Re: Unexpected/unwanted pregnancies: what should guys' responsibility

Such a swift response to juvenile satire.

Well, it's just food for thought.
I'll let it stew for a bit.

Eh, in for a penny, in for a pound.

Ditto.

Would it be so bad for them to clean a toilet or two at school?

Re: Unexpected/unwanted pregnancies: what should guys' responsibility

Once again.

When have "rights" been based on "risks"?
You have no right to tell women what to do with their bodies.

Can't say I see it that way. Let's just call it even.

No let's not. Aside from one fellow troll everyone on this thread disagrees with you. Rather than even let's just call it totally owned. Totally, utterly, miserably out of touch, trollolololo owned.
