Unexpected/unwanted pregnancies: what should guys' responsibility be?

Re: Unexpected/unwanted pregnancies: what should guys' responsibility

I agree with the line of thinking that it's unfair but the alternatives are worse BUT you'd be surprised at how hard it is for mothers to get men who are not/never were married to them to pay for child support. For example, if a woman ends up pregnant after a one night stand it can be really difficult for the woman to get the courts to act.

Re: Unexpected/unwanted pregnancies: what should guys' responsibility

I find the lack of enthusiasm for abstinence to be both distressing and disheartening.

Re: Unexpected/unwanted pregnancies: what should guys' responsibility

Yay abstinence!

Re: Unexpected/unwanted pregnancies: what should guys' responsibility

Yay, Absinthe! Better than abstinence and without self-righteous religious attitude.

Unless I've read the thread incorrectly, you're the first person to mention "religious" at all.

So, your position is that sex, marriage, and abortion are purely civil affairs and that religions have precisely nothing to say on the matter. Further, that they can shut about about gay marriage, sex, abortion, and a host of other issues that the religious hypocrites in the country are forever nattering on about.

He brings up a point tho, its 100% effective, all the time.

Cant argue with results.

Not to throw a wrench into this, but, At what point does the Childs Rights come into effect?
As far as Im concerned as soon as that fetus develops a heartbeat(6-8 weeks), its alive. I understand not everyone will agree with me, but thats ok.

Don't want one, don't have one. Don't tell women what to do with their lives and bodies.

At some point, a fetus is effectively a child though not yet born.

And at some point, they can and should have rights of their own that equal that of the mother.

Answer the question.

Stay out of women's bodies. You've jumped from telling people how to deal with sex to abortion without defending either assertion. Run from a simple question and seem to be little more than a self-righteous religious hypocrite.

Re: Unexpected/unwanted pregnancies: what should guys' responsibility

Templar's comments have managed to render every other male reading and participating in this thread sterile for life, so I guess this problem just naturally solved itself.

Re: Unexpected/unwanted pregnancies: what should guys' responsibility

I don't see this as a legal minefield as I see that two different rights issues are at play

1) Women's right issue

The right of a woman to control her body. It is a woman right to decide if she wants to continue a pregnancy or not.

2) Children's rights

Once born, and possibly before birth, a child has the right to be cared or supported for by both or his/hers parents. His/her right's to support are independent of his parents' behaviour before or during pregnancy.

If a man has been tricked by the woman the child still has a right to his support. If he thinks that a woman's behaviour that lend to the child's conception has been fraudulent he should have the right to sue the woman for damages but he still has a duty to the child.

Only legal adoption can cease the birth parents' obligation to support (legal adoption includes sperm donation through a registered agency).

I realize that alot of you on here consider yourselves "modern", "sophisticated", "educated", "liberal minded", "open minded" and what ever.

An ol' boy I used to haul hay with, who was 10 years my senior (at the time I was 17) told me: "Never F*#k a woman you wouldn't marry!" He went on ..."...cause when a kid comes around you're hooked for life!"

I know there are those of you who are Pro Choice and all that but folks...imho... what separates us from the animals is our ability to choose and do the right thing! Choose not to have sex before marriage. If you can't do that, then choose not to have unprotected sex.

The bottom line is this kiddies...if you screw you could make a baby. I don't care what your political\social line of thinking is, but like Doctor McCoy has always said "There is nothing more precious than life, any kind of life!"

Girls! If you make a child with a fella, he's just as responsible for that youngster as you are. (that's why the whole family dynamic was introduced. Making children is supposed to be a "family thing" not who has "legal jurisdiction!"

Now that's just my thinkin' and any of you yaywho's that want to make nasty comments toward me please remember that your rudeness will be met with my apathy!

and to you I say "Good bye!"

Kiddies?

I think everyone here knows how babies are made. Marriage and having loving, responsible parents, are not always the same thing.

Thanks, Big Hoss. Now you better get back to the Ponderosa before Little Joe gets into another fight with the McClary brothers again!

So THAT'S how it works!

(*Snaps fingers*)

Thanks for straightening us out, Dr. Spock. We'll always be grateful.

Re: Unexpected/unwanted pregnancies: what should guys' responsibility

Seems like a no-brainer to me, but it's not a matter I've really thought about before.

No, absolutely not, you're dead wrong.

Because it's actually two different questions, one is the woman's right to choose, the second one is what happens after and what's best for the baby.

Some women take advantage of that, but child support is supposed to be support for the child, and not the mother; the mother doesn't even factor in. Raising a child is fucking expensive, and the state can't pay for all of that. So take care where you stick your dick.
