Underrepresented Characters

Antonovus

Lieutenant Commander
Red Shirt
All of the series' have numerous characters that appear only briefly or are only semi-developed. For the sake of discussion, what character from any one of the shows would you have liked to have seen more of? What character(s) got the unfair cameo treatment? I'm interested to hear from the board.

After a female Deltan being so prominently featured in TMP. I was surprised that we never saw them again. And I'm not counting that one background guy from TWoK that was supposedly Deltan.
And how about those two little gold skinned guys with the Fez's from "Journey to Babel"?

Lieutenant Palmer, communications officer, U.S.S. Enterprise; she was the other featured player on Star Trek. She first appeared in "The Doomsday Machine" and I'm positive she made another appearance*, she was a stern officer like Uhura, probably was better, but no one will ever know**. There wasn't enough of her and would've liked to see more of her through out the run of the series. Featured players were not supposed to be part of the ensemble, Shatner, Nimoy, and Kelley, she just filled in for the story told.

*And please don't respond to me on what other episodes she's been.
**Uhura fans no need to respond to how valuable she was, I understand she represented the minority symbol of the series. This thread is about underrepresented characters. I think Palmer was one.

Most of the recurring characters/extras on Voyager. They were all in the same boat dealing with being stuck far from home, having to work alongside the Maquis, facing dangers almost every week, never knowing if they'd get back. They all had stories to tell and their own perspectives, but we never saw anything about them except usually when they died.

Sadly Ensign Elizabeth Cutler from Enterprise. Dr. Plox's little assistant during the first season. The actress Kelly Waymire tragically died of an undiagnosed heart condition between the seasons.

They were going to be on Enterprise in the fourth season, but the plan was abandoned at the last minute. The novels have gone with Enterprise's plan to call them Ithenites, a race mentioned as a Federation member by Mr. Daniels in season 3.

It was actually during production of the third season, only a month after an episode aired where Cutler was referenced still being aboard the NX-01.

Kevin Riley on TOS. He got only two episodes where he was featured, and pretty prominantly in both. But he could have been a wonderful regular character.

Ens. Garovick would have also been a character worth revisiting.

It would've been good if we'd seen Shelby again. Or the Ensigns from "Lower Decks". Or find out more about the life of Lieutenant Hawk.

I would have liked to have seen more of Helen Noel and Yeoman Barrows in TOS... like in every single episode. That would have made for good character development and stuff. Um, yeah. :shifty:

Was it Ayala who was in virtually every episode of Voyager, and had no lines in seven years?

Or Mr Rollins, featured prominently in the pilot, but never seen again. At least they didn't just ignore him for six years and then randomly murder him in the seventh season I guess.

All those Equinox guys too. Mind you, that would have just been a retread of the Maquis thing which the writers couldn't be bothered with either.

I agree with Equinox. I disagree that it would be a retread of Maquis. It would have been a redemption story. Maquis never felt they needed redemption since they believed their cause was just, they had more problems conforming to military authority. The Equinox crew are very accustomed to military authority but committed a less forgiveable crime.

I mean in the sense that the writers would have made everyone friends in 45 minutes, had they come back. It would have ended with a trip to Sandrine's, or whichever holodeck programme was a la mode at that point in the series.
