Does anyone watch this series? I think of all the new shows I saw last year, I might have loved this one the most. It's like the most cheery show on TV and I love it for that reason. I hope because they know they are on Netflix it doesn't get darker because we have plenty of those shows. I needed a replacement for 30 Rock and Parks and Rec and I got it here. Love Ellie Kemper as Kimmy and while Krakowski is pretty much playing Jenna, she's awesome here too.

We also got a new season 2 trailer today, which has me very excited.

Watched it about halfway through before it got too crazy for me and others watching with me. I did really like Ellie Kemper though.

I'm very interested. The first season was mostly good, except for the trial episodes at the end (I only got through those because I was attached to the main characters, if I wasn't I wouldn't have made it). But when the show is good, its the best (live action) comedy I've seen in years, better then the normal junk we get on TV. I was shocked that Tina Fey was involved, since this is the first thing she's done that I don't hate. Hopefully Season 2 will be good.

I didn't comment then, so I'll echo those who were underwhelmed by the trial arc that closed the first season. As Trekker4747 noted, there's weirdness with the show's timeline in that, at ~15, the newly-captured Kimmy shouldn't have been so easily fooled about the end of the world scenario the Reverend foisted upon them. Obviously they had to work around Kemper's actual age, more or less, but I don't know why the writers didn't have her kidnapped at 5 rather than ~15. Because the implications of pre-teen abuse would have been too dark even to handle at a distance? In any case, it didn't bother me, and I was content to accept the premise and keep the whole captivity thing vague until the trial arc brought it to the forefront.

But I didn't find said arc either funny or dramatically compelling, so it was a downturn for the season. Here's hoping that the Reverend stuff is done with, the mentally handicapped stepfather stuff is dialed down, and the focus stays on Kimmy in the city from now on.

I loved the show, especially as a spiritual successor to 30 Rock. It has that quirky and weird humor that I love about Tina Fey.

As someone who has taught students around that age for the past 10 years, you underestimate the gullibility of 15 years olds. Seriously.

I agree the closing trial arc was a disappointment and stopped being funny. Which is such a shame because I was so excited about John Hamm as a cult leader.

I know Tina Fey said they wouldn't go too crazy now that it's being made for Netflix. But I hope they at least take advantage of the fact that they're not filming it with Network television in mind.

The only part of the trial arc I didn't laugh at was Tina Fey and what's his name as the "O.J. prosecutors." Tina Fey is just not funny to me as an actress, but her writing is top shelf.

I thought it was a stroke of genius to bring in Jon Hamm as the cult leader. The only way that could have been funnier is if they'd made him a 90 year old Don Draper.

Yeah I loved Tina Fey in 30 Rock, but her appearance as an incompetent lawyer left me underwhelmed.

I do love this show though, it's so cheery and barmy. Can't wait for season two.

If they make this show darker than it is or have people cursing up a storm, I might be out. I loved the first season for it's adorableness and just making me feel joyful and happy. I don't want them to "Grit it up" because it's on Netflix.

The show regularly references that "weird sex stuff" happened in the bunker and there's a running gag that Kimmy is terrified of Velcro and has a bizarre understanding of how relationships work. It's already dark, it just has a thin coat of bright paint to make it bizarre and funny. There's also the references to the landlady killing her husband and covering it up. Also her stepdad got addicted to heroin.

It's why I love the show. It's dark, but taken to such absurd depths that it becomes funny.

I'm fine with that. It's funny to the point where the dark and dreary are kind of masked. I just don't want to see this series lose the wittiness for dark and gritty. Also, I like that this is a show where there is no cursing. I don't need to hear the F word every few minutes.
