Una's longterm future.

Styleset

Lieutenant Commander
Red Shirt
Here's my theory: Since Lieutenant Commander Una Chin-Riley is an Illyrian she will never be promoted to captain. I think at the end of the series she will leave Starfleet and return to her people, maybe engaging in space exploration with them.

Thoughts?

She goes back in time and causes Christine Chapel to never be born, then assumes her identity in the present. As a result, there's never a romance between Spock and Chapel.

I love this theory. Add in the time travel causing some terrible mishap in which Michael Burnham's mutiny fails, thus undoing all of Discovery's canon, and I'd say you've got an excellent series finale.

It was a perfectly legitimate way THAT she beat the charges. She asked for asylum, and got it. Nothing wrong with that. If there's any bad blood coming from that, it's not her fault.

besides, the court records could always be sealed. No reason anyone ever has to find out about all this.

If the JAG corps considered the asylum claim valid, I don't see why the rest of Starfleet wouldn't.

Given the themes of bigotry directed at Una, it would make sense that her career stagnates. It doesn’t matter that she did everything right and it’s against everything Starfleet claims to stand for, some people are going to be held back because the people in charge has some prejudice against them.

Since her only appearance in TOS was in The Cage / The Menagerie, her fate is what the show-runners make it. She may fade into obscurity, she may get her own command, she may be killed or lost on an assignment. Keep tuning in.

Yep. Unlike Spock or Pike or Uhura or Chapel and various others, Una's future is a blank slate.

(For what's worth, btw, I had her eventually becoming the captain of the Yorktown in my book.)

We all like to see our favorite characters making command, but the simple truth is that not every baby turtle makes it to the sea. It would be just as realistic for Una not to advance any farther, given the trial, acquittal or not.

Or they give her a second stringer Pioneer class ship fill it with a bunch of other augment adjacent crews they don't like and send them off to do unimportant planetary survey's in deep deeeeep space where they never have to hear about equal treatment complaints ever again.

This plan will then back fire so badly that Una's ship will be immortalized in the starfleet museum as we see with the USS Pioneer in Picard.

John Byrne did a great Star Trek Series for IDW comics and they followed her career from the first posting to her time on Enterprise. He also had her appear as a flag officer.
Yes, I enjoyed Byrne miniseres Crew a lot. She also pops up (unnamed, naturally) in his Romulans storyline The Hollow Crown and in the first one of his New Visions photo comics.
